First day in cloth :-)

Today is the first day for my dd (8 months) in cloth nappies and I'm a little excited Grin. I looked at reusables when I was pregnant but couldn't afford the initial outlay to buy them all so put it on the back burner. Looked up my local council last week and noticed they offered a huge discount on tots bots so I got the starter pack!! Not sure if I will be able to do it full time as I only have 10 nappies and it's taken 24 hours plus 20 mins in tumble dryer just to get them dry (washed a few times yesterday). Typically the sun has went back into hiding so had to bring out the clothes horse and leave next to window. Only 1 wrap came with the pack but managed to get one on sale from kiddicare last night which should arrive tomorrow.
Any tips you can throw my way? I'm a little nervous to have her in cloth tonight. Tends to have a very wet nappy in the morning (sleeps through so no chance to change till morning) Tell me she will be fine

Yay! Cloth nappies are the bestest Wink

How many nappies does she go through in a day?

When DS was in nappies I had to have a strict routine when it came to washing. If I got behind, then catching up was impossible. So wash a load everyday and get them up to dry asap.

24 hours is a long time but I've never used totsbots so can't really comment.

Do they have a stuffable bit? At nighttime I would add a booster pad.

Using reusables some of the time is better than using disposables all of the time. Every little helps!

I'd say from first morning change to bed maybe 5ish nappies. So I could do it I guess. The tots bots are the bamboo stretch and say on website they take a little longer to dry. House isn't warm right now so probably didn't help. Hopefully can get them outside on line when sun is back!
Yes I have extra boosters so can pop one in for night. Oh it's all very exciting! I've not sorted out what to do when we go out. May change her first and take a few disposables just incase Smile

bamboo will definitely take longer to dry. but it has better absorpency. i'm still new (planning for dc2 due soon) but am thinking about bamboo shaped nappies for night time as i've read that lots of people do this for night time. but like i say i'm still learning myself! good luck!

aw, lovely Grin

it makes sense (for those who are tentative) to buy one or two at a time.

look out for special offers, buy trial packs etc, to build up your collection over time.
We got some second-hand from a friend - so it's worth looking at NCT nearly-new sales etc.

We're still building our collection (now she's growing!)

Don't save them all up until you've run out before you wash them - we do a load every couple of days, and if we've not got a full load of nappies, we put them in with anything white and do a boil wash.

if you can get them out onto the line, they dry in a few hours!

nickelbarapasaurus · 06/06/2012 13:41

we've found that ones like Little lambs cotton nappies dry quickest - but your DD will be in the next size up and i'm not sure how the boosters are fixed.

I got bargain wraps from www.kittykins.co.uk (just go to their special offers section)

we're not snobby about what nappies we buy either, so we pick up bargains all over as we find them.

it's easier to do nappy + wrap rather than all-in-one because you don't always need to change the wrap.
