Hi - DS has his 16 week injections (he's 16+6) this afternoon and I was wondering about pain relief as he was very sore / tearful after the last ones. He was born at 34+6 and weighed 3lb 12oz. He's now 4.6kg (using kg as that's what they refer to on the Calpol box!!)

Dosage states:

  • 2 months+ = 'Infants 2-3 months (weighing more than 4kg and not premature)'
  • Calprofen 3 months plus = 'Infants 3-6 months (weighing over 5kg)'

Is there anything else I could give him??

Hiya, I'm no expert so would definately check with the nurses but it sounds to me like you'd be fine to give him Calpol, he's over 2 months corrected now isn't he? And I was told the weight is the most important thing. It's half a dose for 2-3 month olds so I think that would be fine.

Although my DD was not officially prem she was37 weeks but only 3 lb 13. The nurse told me I could give her 1/2 dose of calpol after her 12 week injections if she got a fever (but not just as a matter of course, only if she needed it)

DS was 35 weeks and had his first jabs at 12 weeks so 7 weeks corrected IYSWIM.

Dr said I was fine to give calpol - he actually prescribed me some paracetamol!

And when I took DS to walk in centre at 8 weeks (3 corrected) the Dr there said to give calpol if he had a temperature (he had a nasty cold).

So I think you will be fine.

You should be fine giving him some.

I was told to give my DS some when he was ill at 7 weeks 10 days away from being 2 months because he weighed well over 4kg i think he was about 12lbs whatever that is in kg. She said it's really the weight that matters

You could try phoning NHS24 or going to speak to the pharmacy or phone your HV?
