My dd is almost 3 weeks old. We are FF with Aptamil. All was well till about a week ago when she started screaming for hours in the morning and subsequently started in the evening too :( We started using Colief which has certainly reduced the crying but she seems very gassy and gurgly especially overnight and sometimes the loud gurgles are followed by an explosive poo. The gurgling, groaning & belching is so loud it keeps us awake! She has never vomited so I don't think it's reflux.
She is now on Colief & Infacol but I wondered if anybody else had experienced this and what would you advise??
There seems to be so many options it's confusing.... Aptamil Comfort v switch bottles etc
I love her so much but the stress & worry re feeding is getting me down :(

I had this with my dd (she is now 2.10). I am sending you hugs and I totally understand how awful it is. But just to reassure you it will more than likely pass around 12 weeks.
We gave her aptimal comfort, anti colic tommee t bottles and colief too which seemed to help.
Also have you tried massage techniques - moving legs in a cycling motion whilst lying down, gentle circular motions with two fingers in a clockwise direction around her stomach. Also rocking with her on your forearm face down so the bumps are on her tummy.
You could also try a little bit of cooled boiled water every now and then. All this may ease the discomfort.
Another thing we tried was cranial osteopathy. There is theory that this helps, as when they are born sometimes their heads have soft spots etc.. (sorry can't really remember) and this may affect their digestion etc.. maybe you could look this up.
I think this did help too but she was nearer to 12 weeks then so mot sure if she just grew out of it.
Just try and stay sane and I promise you it will get better.
I hope this helps.

Cranial osteopathy cured DS - after 3rd treatment it just stopped as though a switch was flicked - no tailing off or anything.

Ooh just remembered that we used to raise the head end of her Moses basket a little as lying completely flat can make wind etc worse....
By the way I know its hard but please don't worry... I know its horrible to see your baby in pain but it will pass and she won't remember a thing. As for yourself you will look back and realise how strong you are to be able to cope with such a stressful time (and don't feel guilty for feeling like you may want to throw her out the window sometimes - I know I did, or maybe that was just me ;) )

My DS is lactose intolerant and has been on LF formula since 5 weeks, we went through 3 weeks of the hell you are going through before he went on the formula. HV was totally against it and said to wait til 12 weeks to see if it passed doc was for trying the LF to see how it went. Went with docs opinion as i'd tried everything else and he was totally normal within 5 days. HV suggested demanded i tried him on a bottle of normal milk at 12 weeks totally convinced he would be fine Q 2 days of screaming in pain :(

I would say tho do try everything else before you ask for lactose free milk because it can make them lactose intolerat if they are not already. I'm told most babies grow out of it by 1 year old few have an intolerance for life i am going to wait until 6 months and try it again.

good luck

I have 5 week DD and going through the same thing. She's very gassy and will scream from 6pm til 9pm like clockwork. Whether its colic or developmental I don't know, but you have my sympathies because it's really hard..

I read something about the wonder weeks(?) and it said this is normal as babies learn so much at this time. Still!

Ps: if you look upon the screaming as developmental and normal at this stage it might help you cope??
