Junior Scrable

DowagersHump · 26/05/2012 21:46

Orchard have some really good games - we like What a Performance (which can be very amusing) and Pop to the Shops. WAP is a bit like Cranium and PttS is a game which teaches kids about money - they have to go and buy different stuff in shops and get change etc. sounds dull but is actually quite fun :)

thanks, just looked at junior scrabble but its quite expensive with mixed reviews, not sure if its worth it??
will look at the orhard hills ones now, thanks.

I like junior scrabble too, got an old version and you can turn it over and play normal scrabble on other side, not sure if you can with the current one.

Also junior monopoly, again, got old version so not sure if still exists, but you used to go round a fairground.

orienteerer · 26/05/2012 21:54

One of the versions of Junior Monopoly.

CMOTDibbler · 26/05/2012 21:56

DS got a game called 'Hey, thats my fish' the other week, which we have all enjoyed playing lots

familyfun · 26/05/2012 22:01

has anyone got magic couldron? just looked and it seems quite good?
pop to the shops looks good as they are doing money at the moment but maybe a bit easy?? not keen on what a performance i dont think.

"Pop to the shops" and "3d snakes and ladders" very popular here with DD aged 5.

Sorry didn't read OP properly Blush

TheOneWithTheHair · 26/05/2012 23:56

Old fashioned but what about Ludo? My dcs love it. :)

timetosmile · 27/05/2012 00:01

Dominoes? DS2 (nearly 5) has now learned to add cunning to the basic rules by getting the doublers out first, sneeking a look at Mum's to see how to 'block' her...
Uno?
An easy Top Trumps in something she's interested in..will help with reading too?

littlemissnormal · 27/05/2012 18:25

My 5 year old is obsessed with pop to the shops...it is now at nannys house Wink

wearymum200 · 27/05/2012 20:15

Draughts is a big hit with 6yo ds. Also, not strictly board game, but how about uno cards? Simple premise, but strategy and arithmetic add interest.

dlady · 27/05/2012 20:21

When I was little I used to love Coppit and you can still buy it. It is a take on Ludo but you can steal opponents counters, which are cone shapes.

Molehillmountain · 27/05/2012 20:48

Crazy chefs, pop to the shops and jelly elephants loved here. And ds, 3, can join in with cs and je. All orchard.

sadsac · 27/05/2012 21:16

We like coppit here too. If a few players, can be quite a laugh. I think they sell it in The Entertainer toy shop.

Nat38 · 27/05/2012 21:21

How abpot Junior Cluedo??

kahlua4me · 27/05/2012 21:24

My dd, 5, loves frustration and Shut the box.
Shut the box is good fun for everyone to play. Dh and I also play it when dc are asleep!

MrsKitty · 27/05/2012 21:24

Agree with the Orchard suggestions - We have 'Bus Stop' and a shopping list game by Orchard which both DC (5 & 2.5) love.

Junior Monopoly is surprisingly good - doesn't take too long to play, but the basic principles are there (it's about parties rather than properties!)

Cranium Cariboo (treasure hunt type game) is fun too.

40notTrendy · 27/05/2012 21:30

Pop to the shops a favourite here too. Junior scrabble too. Ds less keen on junior monopoly, largely because he can't cope with losing Grin. We love Shave the Sheep, the Lego game, but ds really can't cope when he gets the wolf. We shouldn't laugh as last time we played he had a major teary strop but it was v funny. All over a bloody wolf.
Snakes and ladders popular too, and connect 4. Frustration too altho he cheats!

BlueChampagne · 28/05/2012 12:46

I was brought up with Coppit too! "Floundering" is very popular in our house and available through Amazon.

hels71 · 28/05/2012 13:45

My 4 year old (almost 5) loves junior monopoly. We play it almost daily........(don't get my first monopoly by mistake though....dreadful game!!) She also loves the card game whot.
