is there any use for these old terry nappies?

hi

i inherited my sisters old terries, have just washed them but they're really dry and rough and don't look very comfortable. i'm actually going to use pocket nappies and was planning on using these to make reusable wipes, but they look like they would be quite harsh on the skin if i used them as a wipe.

is there any way of reviving them?

or can i fold them and use them as booster pads with a fleece liner?

is it even worth giving them away given that they are so rough?

or shall we just make them into tea towels??

thanks!

Don't you put them on a hot wash with vinegar?
If they dont soften up then find an alternative use for them.

You could probably fold them as boosters inside a pocket nappy?

Missnevermind I've never washed them.before as they weren't mine but will that soften them up? How much vinegar do I need? Many thanks!

I'd use them in the pockets as stuffers iyswim?

Pad fold and stick them in.

GobblersKnob · 20/05/2012 15:52

I was going to say use them as stuffing for pocket nappies.

Don't forget even the roughest nappy softens up beautifully with the first weeGrin

Can you wash them and hang them outside for a day or two? Wind and rain should soften them up.

Will be fab pocket stuffers too.

They last for years. DD is 24 years old this year and I still have a pile of her old terrys.

They get used for wiping wet labradors mostly Grin

umboo · 20/05/2012 20:12

thenightsky thats what i thought which is why i was so surprised when i took them out from the loft that they were so hard. i thought maybe it was the storage but one wash in the machine hasn't changed anything...they are about 8 years old but haven't been used for 5 years, so hardly had any use at all really.

i'm thinking i might use them as pocket inserts with ebay cheapies as i can buy those nappies without inserts and save a bit of money Grin

thanks for your help :)

i use old hard terry squares cut up as wipes

i always dip them in water, and once they are wet they are fine to wipe your babies bum

try it for yourself and you will see what i mean

(i would never use them dry, but dipped in a pot of water and rung out they are the best wipes ever IMO)

CaptainHetty · 22/05/2012 16:06

I'd use them as boosters, or as nannyl says, once they're wet, terry squares make really good wipes.

thanks for youre replies. well i tried out the terry nappies as wipes on 2yo ds1 and he got a rash after just one change :( i found another thread on here about the best cloth for reusable wipes and everyone was saying old terries are the best so i think there's something wrong with these terries. i've done a bit more google research now and seen that there are different ways to revitalise old terries so i'm sure it could be done with these, but tbh i think ive given up on them now. at 36w pregnant i have some other things to sort out in the short time i've got left so i think it will be easier to buy ready made boosters and wipes!

i'm just looking into whether i can get any money for them, and if not will just freecycle them.

i think i'm going to go with the small mothercare muslin squares for wipes, as i have one pack already and these worked a treat on ds. only problem is they are small so you need more than one per change, and probably won't do for poos. but they're prestitched and off the shelf which is kind of what i need right now....

thanks for all your help. :)
