I invested in an Angelcare monitor. You can see a light on the monitor for everytime baby breathes, the light flashes. Well, that's what I did. I'm sure you could get one cheap off of ebay. I still have mine, and would sell it, but now live in Oz.

We have a video monitor which is fab. About £100 though. Also have a breathing monitor which is like a pad under the mattress. It is something we haven't used with dc2 but used a lot with PFB.
Less night waking takes a bit of getting used to. When my son first slept through I worried about it, now I'm over that and grateful for the sleep Grin
As long as you follow all the advice re cot death precautions there isn't much more you can do. It is thankfully extremely rare.

You will get used to it.

My ds2 went from waking every 2hours to sleeping 7pm until anywhere between 6&8 just like that. The first day I woke up an realised it was 8am and I hadn't had to get up my heart missed a beat and I RAN to see him. Then he got really grumpy because I had woken him up. Grin

Iirc, the majority of cot deaths happen in the first 4 months of a baby's life. Your baby has passed this 'danger' point now, so I hope this puts your mind at rest a little bit.
