Graduates back home

has anyone else got an unemployed and struggling graduate at home? My dd has been home now for nearly a year and it's tough. Great to have her help with the 5 year old, lovely to have her company, but two women in one kitchen is the least of it. The worst is to know that my beloved child is only home because she has few other options... as she points out frequently.

What is her degree in? The economic climate is hard, but she needs to think laterally and not give up on life. Do you think she is depressed? Is she doing any voluntary work?

I'm sorry but, economic climate or not, it's not acceptable for a grown woman to be living off her parents for a year. Having 'few other options' sounds like an excuse. There are jobs available but they are going to be a bit lower down the payscale than maybe she thought when she graduated. Like everyone else, she has to be realistic and make much more of an effort to get into the workplace.

Pick up a back up trade and work - PT/aerobics instructor has been my back up job all my life. There's lots of options out there. Employers won't like long periods of unemployment regardless of the economic climate! Or volunteer...the better her cv...or teach English overseas...she's got plenty of options if she looks hard enough!

I doult that she is particularly happy living off her parents. It sounds a pretty miserable existance for all concerned.

Jobs are scarce at the moment for everyone. I don't think a long period of unemployment is the end of the world. Prehaps the Prince's trust would help her get into work.

Jobs may be scarce but I do not believe that in a whole year an intelligent young woman couldn't get any job at all. If things are bad locally, she could look further afield -overseas even. How much rent is she paying you OP....?

Does she have any job at all?

What is her degree and what does she actually want to do. Does she know.
