Potty training - should I give up???

DD1 is 2 1/2 and I started potty training her on Monday. She has got the weeing thing sorted and asks to go and use the potty/toilet but we are not having much joy with poo. She tells me she needs a poo after she has actually done it in her pants. After four pairs of soiled pants today (one of which was on the sofa!!) I am wondering whether she is not actually ready. Part of me doesn't want to give up as we are doing well with wee. I am trying to stay as calm as possible when I need to change her but it is becoming very difficult. Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.

Not by any chance an expert but you seem to have done so well so far.

I am about to start training my daughter who I don't think has a clue but I'll follow Cods rules and see.

Keep going, you're doing really well by the sound of it.
Try to keep her bottomless so she's not tempted to poo in her pants. She might hold it in a couple of days in defiance but when it comes you will be ready and waiting and can stick the potty under her. I found that popping an old terry square in the potty when a poo was due helped, sometimes they don't like the feeling of 'losing' a poo (ie they normally keep them close don't they!)
My DD took 10days (3poos because she held them in) weeing everywhere and then something just clicked and she stopped fighting me iyswim.

Top tip for avoiding nappies out & about is to sit her on an old towel on top of a carrier bag in the carseat/pushchair. Don't leave the house without 2 spare trousers, more towels (terry squares again!) and more carrier bags to put all the wet stuff in.
Good luck, Liv

I learnt from these boards that pooing on the potty/toilet often comes much later than proficient weeing. I know it's hard, but you need to carry on being as relaxed as you can about it so that it does not become an issue for her. If you've cracked the weeing in only 3 days, I really think you should soldier on.

Thank you all for the support. Have to admit to struggling somewhat and getting sick of poo getting everywhere. Will definitely try Liv's idea of leaving her bottomless - hadn't thought of that but it makes sense.
