7yo dd having wee accidents daily

Any advice gratefully recieved.

DD is just 7 and can barely get through the day without wet knickers. This is not new but since starting afterschool club 2 days/wk it has become a problem as having to have a change of clothes at AS club.

She hates using toilets except ours so I don't think she goes to the toilet at school at all. This is also a problem at Brownies and Dancing and friends houses. She puts off going to the toilet until it is too late. She also avoids drinking so that she won't need the toilet.

I have tried talking to her about it (she gets upset or defensive). I have tried turning a blind eye (nothing changes), I have tried getting annoyed (well I didn't try it, I just do sometimes get annoyed).

I don't know what (if anything) I can do Sad.

Any idea why she hates using other toilets? Would a special seat/fancy wipes be more inviting?

Has the GP been involved at all?

I think you need to talk to the teachers, explain her reluctance to go to the toilet, ask if they are unsanitary or anything like that and, if not, get them to go with her and make sure she uses them. I'm sure they can find a way of doing it that's not going to embarrass her. For your part I would make a big point of taking her to as many 'strange' toilets as possible... shops, public loos etc... so that she can see there's nothing to be worried about.

yes GP too

she may have a longstanding uti

in the meantime she needs to be drinking more, to stretch the bladder to hold more

get school onside

stuff a sports style bottle of water into her hand as she comes out of school/after school club

good luck

Thanks for the help.

Haven't been to GP but probably will do.
Teacher hasn't been helpful (a bit old school/no nonsense) DD doesn't want me to ask teacher to remind her to go to loo at breaktime and tbh I don't trust the teacher to do this subtly.
After school club ladies are much more helpful and are happy to prompt her and keep spare clothes etc.
She is scared of toilet cubicles Confused, scared of spiders I think.
I will try and push drinks as i hadn't realised I could stretch her bladder (it does seem small).

Thanks again Smile.
