4 year old constantly saying 'no' and stroppy talking

Finding it very waring, whatever i ask ds to do, i get 'no'. I've resorted to having to carry him upstairs to bed as he refuses to go, he's getting heavy!! He's very stroppy when asking for stuff, ie, demanding to be given a drink rather than asking politely. I keep saying talk nicely, say please etc. Anyone got any solutions?

Nope, got a 4yo who does exactly the same as well, sorry! I think it's a phase - that's what I keep telling myself anyway. Just keep plugging away, it will pass.

I get my dd to 'turn into a dog' if I want her to go upstairs or find something like her shoes.

She rides an invisible horse on the shops or even we are walking.

Thanks. Glad i'm not on my own, he used to be so reasonable!

Yeah, I know - mine was lovely until about 2w before his 4th birthday - it was a bit like the scene from Harry Enfield, where Kevin turns 13, without the hair and spots of course but the sudden Attitude and defiance was a shock! He's getting better again - someone suggested it might be a testosterone spurt - who knows. Just stand firm and wait it out.
