Yes, its a monthly fee, regardless of how many bank holidays there are in any given month. No day in lieu or anything.

tanfastic · 02/05/2012 19:50

No.

thereinmadnesslies · 02/05/2012 20:00

Yes. I deliberately do not use the nursery on Monday because of this.

Tee2072 · 02/05/2012 20:01

Yes, all holidays are pro-rated across the year.

jelliebelly · 02/05/2012 20:10

Yes same mount each month regardless of holidays bank or otherwise

missorinoco · 02/05/2012 20:12

Yes, I also swapped days to not work Monday for this reason.

Kveta · 02/05/2012 20:14

no.

HateBeingCantDoUpMyJeans · 02/05/2012 20:16

No and I avoid Monday's for dd free hours so I don't miss out on them.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 02/05/2012 20:18

Yes

MrsKitty · 02/05/2012 20:42

Yes.

chocoroo · 02/05/2012 20:43

Ours is pro-rated so we pay the same each month regardless. They close for a few extra days at some Bank Hols and that's factored in too.

MrsKitty · 02/05/2012 20:44

Oh, and we also pay for a full day even when they have shortened hours over the Christmas period Hmm.

Pinkjenny · 02/05/2012 20:44

Yes

blackteaplease · 02/05/2012 20:44

No

PuffofSmoke · 02/05/2012 20:45

DD's nursery doesn't do bank holidays. Only shuts for a week at Christmas and Easter and we can take a further 2 weeks off at our choice (so 4 weeks we don't pay per year) - is that unusual?

besmirchedandbewildered · 02/05/2012 20:47

I don't know actually, I presume I would as I pay a flat monthly fee, but as DD2 is only in Tues-Thurs it's never really come up.

lynniep · 02/05/2012 20:47

weeeeelll I pay monthly for both the nursery and the childminder. They charge for 50 weeks a year and divide it by 12.

However my nursery manager is brilliant as DS2 ( and DS1 when he was there) is always in on a Monday - she lets me 'move' the day elsewhere. This is marvellous as I have Wednesdays off work, so I put DS2 in for the morning and have 'me' time :)

The childminder doesn't - its tough titties as far as she's concerned. But thats ok because there arent as many BH's on a Friday

blackteaplease · 02/05/2012 20:55

My dd is also only in Tuesday -Thursday but there was a Tuesday BH over Christmas that we didn't get charged for. Nor did we get charged for the other shut down days.

Ours gets deducted off on the invoice for the month ahead.

xkcdfangirl · 02/05/2012 22:08

I'm shocked to hear that some nurseries charge for bank holidays. This would really only be reasonable if all children were in 5 days a week. If I was paying the same in a bank holiday week I'd expect them to take my DS in as normal so I could have a nice bank holiday of complete rest without any toddler-wrangling.

Our nursery only charges for the days they are open, so training days, bank holidays etc are all deducted from the monthly bills.

If you pay for bank holidays, then in 2012 someone who had a DC in nursery on Mondays and Tuesdays would get 97 days, whereas someone with a DC in on Wednesdays and Thursdays would get 103 days, for the same money. I wouldn't use any nursery that did that.

RedHotPokers · 02/05/2012 22:10

No.

Natzer · 03/05/2012 09:02

Thanks, it's just that she only goes on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, and it's expensive (£30 for the afternoon). And we pay each month as sometimes the amounts are different due to planned holidays and extra days.

Was just a bit cross to be charged for bank holidays, but then I suppose work still pay me for bank holidays. Smile

Just emailed the nursery and they got it wrong. For the majority of children they pay in arrears, whereas new starters pay in advance. We are one of only a few who are paying now for May, and she had forgotten about the BH. So its all cleared and a new invoice is on its way.

Phew!
