Your child's room

I don't know if this is the right board to post on but couldn't really find a more specific one. What age do you think you should change a child's nursery into an older room? My son will be 4 in June, and starts school in Sep so I feel under pressure to re-decorate. I was thinking of doing this for his bday (cars/train theme) but I feel sooo sad as his nursery is still perfect condition, I don't have much money and it just seems like a stepping stone in him growing up! I don't really know if it NEEDS doing or just unnecessary money? He currently has mamas a papas theme, hedgehogs with matching rug, boarder nightshade etc it looks lovely!

Could you sell the existing stuff and put a different border up? It probably doesn't need doing but it might be nice for him to have a 'big boy's' room when he starts school.

I think my biggest issue is selfish and is ripping off his nursery stuff/taking down the light and the rug etc, just memories of him as a baby and it seems so recent, I may have to ask someone else to do it! I'm getting carried away looking at bedding/curtains etc all matching as we have just got a single bed the bedding is soo expensive!

I think you have to accept that the nursery decor was mainly done for you, whereas now he is getting to be old enough to appreciate a room that reflects him as a little boy rather than a baby.

Agree that it can be done cheaply with a nice paint colour and some new curtains (ikea has really cheap kids ones or find some on ebay).

If you are near an Ikea they also have nice bedding, accessories etc good for a fairly neutral kids room (no theme) that would last for years. I would have a look at their website and get some ideas.

You might find you get excited about this new stage rather than looking back at when he was a baby. Smile

thankyou ladies :) You are all right, I am going to get some scooby doo bedding and thomas tank as birthday presents and i know he will love it! I think with his birthday coming up, starting school and the bedroom thing have all just got a bit much and made me realise he's not a baby any more! He's my only child and it's a scary thought lol.
