Moved from a flat to a house - routines all out of sync!

Hello - we have been lucky enough to be able to move from our flat to a house but I am now really struggling to get myself and the DC (3 and 2) ready in the morning. In our flat I could have a shower, put my make up on, get dressed, dry hair etc etc all within sight of the DC's who would be in the living room watching Cbeebies or just pottering around behind me. An hour later we would all be out of the door for nursery/work.

Now we are in a house, all our routines are completely shot! I can shower at night but I still need to be upstairs to get dressed etc and I don't want to leave them downstairs on their own for more than 5 mins or so.

What do other people do? When my DH is around in the morning he holds the fort so I finish getting ready but I want to find a system that works for when he is not around.

They seem to be quite happy to run about upstairs while I shower and do my hair etc so maybe that's the answer and I just forget the multi tasking of them having their milk and TV while I get ready!

Having always lived in a house and being a single parent I found that it helped to have a stair-gate across DS's bedroom door when he was that age so that I could get washed and dressed etc. and he could play safely in his room. Then I'd dress him and we'd all come down for breakfast.

I dry my hair and do my make up downstairs. Is that a possibility for you?

Yes could prob dry my hair and do make up downstairs - I think what I am missing is that I could distract my DC's with milk and TV while I got on and did my make up/hair without them wanting to join in and thus making everything take twice as long. I also yearn for the days when I could do ANYTHING without a small person hanging off my leg and when we were in the flat I could sort of have a bit of time to myself to get ready....

Maybe I should just embrace my DC's getting involved in my daily routine upstairs as a chance to bond Hmm and accept that my routine in the morning has to change!
