Can anyone help me I am lookin in to changing over to cloth nappies DD is 21 months and i'm expecting again end of may. There is no lollipop lady near by but The Nappy Lady has advised us that the bimmbles and bummbles would be well suited to us. Has anyone got any advice before we take the plunge and make DH part with some cash!!

Congrats on the new baby

I have DD who is 4 months, so can only comment on suitablility for new addition. Nappy lady advised me the same - i did buy some 2nd hand bimbles, which were great, but they don't last very long and if honest probably not worth buying new just for one babe. I have one bumble, which is very absorbent and great for night (and will be buying more for this reason ). But its quite bulky and with the addition of a wrap not the best for daytime. If you don't mind second hand it might be a good idea buy a few different types from nappy lady classifieds, ebay or classifieds here and try a range of styles before parting with lots of cash. Might be worth looking at the one size nappies like MEO's - could use with both DD and new babe. They are quick to dry too, although bulky on a little one. My faves are bamboozles by tots bots - very slim and quick to dry and so very soft. Some of the pocket nappies are great too - have just bought a pink sheep minki, which is fab, and doesn't need a wrap. Have a look at some of the other nappy sites too, the nappy lady is great but doesn't stock the widest range.

Its very addictive!

I found a good website the other day called plush pants or something like that - they do a trial pack of cotton nappies with loads of different makes that they will post to you so you can try before you buy. Excellent idea, wish I'd have tried it before I bought mine although I can't complain about One Life nappies, they are easy to use, wash well but a little bulky on a newborn. I think the website asks for a nominal sum upfront (wasn't much) which they refund if you buy from them. Hope this helps

Hi
The nappy lady advised me to get Bumbles too! My approach was to by one or two of a few different nappies to work out which ones work best for us. Then as Marytee says you're not parting with too much cash on just one type of nappy which you might end up not liking. You could be making an expensive mistake! Bumbles are good for night time, and I also like Bamboozles and hemp nappies for daytime as they are more absorbent but thinner than your average nappy! Motheresase airflow wraps are great with all the nappies I have tried.
Another MNer recommended Kittykins.co.uk - this is where I have bought the majority of my nappies, very quick delivery and free p&p. Have fun!

I use Bumbles with Motherease Airflow wraps and I think they're great! To start with I used size 1 Tots Bots, but I wouldn't bother again - I'll just use the Bumbles from birth and sell my Tots Bots . My dd is now 8 months and we use the Bumbles without any boosters during the day and with the pop-in booster at night. As she gets bigger (and wees more), we'll use the 1 booster during the day and 2 at night, and so on... I don't find them too bulky on her like that, but I do find that she goes into the next size wrap a little sooner than the weight range suggests.
For us, the best bit about Bumbles is that they are totally fleece-lined, so there is a total stay-dry layer next to her skin. As she is prone to excema, that is essential .

It also depends on your budget. The bimbles are very small and only last for a few weeks, unless you have a small baby... Bumbles from birth are quite bulky, but they make a very affordable option. We tried different nappies and we went for the two-size option with tots bots (we had 15 size 1 Fluffles which last until the baby's about 5 months old, and 10 size 2 fluffles).

I think it's a good idea to try a few second hand nappies first so that you can make a better choice.

I think the Bumble is a great nappy, it poppers down for a small baby, and you take the middle bit out, so it's less bulky, but when the baby gets bigger and you need more absorbency, you can add more material (boosting).
When babies are small you can put pretty much anything on them, they just lie there, so you could use cheap nappies like terries, but when they get more wriggly, it's nice to have a fitted nappy like a bumble.
If you prefer a small nappy, that fits a small baby better than a Bumble the Diddy Diaper is very good, it's stretchier than the bimble and lasts longer, my ds could still wear a size one Diddy when he was 6 months.
You could then go up to the Bumble.
I have loads of different nappies, it turned into a hobby, so I would say, it might be an idea to buy some small nappies and terries, and then once you get used to them, look at the various nappy sellers and see what else you would like to try, there is a huge range, and different nappies suit different occasions.
I personally prefer little nappies for little babies, I think it looks cuter and more comfy.
There is a great second hand market in reusable nappies, so you can alwasy sell on small nappies and use the proceeds to fund the next size up - remember you need fewer as they get bigger.
