Naps

Can you tell me what your 16 month old does?

DS dropped his morning nap a few months ago and now has one big nap around 1/2 pm for up to two hours. In nursery they are lucky to get him to sleep for an hour, I don't think he likes the noise.

Bedtime is around 8pm.

Does a map at one/two pm sound right or should I be trying to get him down before then?

Nap, not map.

Also, what do you do about going out when your child's nap is due? Do you just plan around it or let your toddler nap wherever you are?

my dd is the same age and does the same, one big nap in the afternoon for about 2hrs, but if we got out she will just have a small nap in the car of pushchair and then go to bed earlier.

bedtime is also by 8pm generally, sometimes earlier, sometimes later as i have 4 older children to deal with!

on the wkend and when dp is home dd will go down for her nap later, say 2pm or sometimes later than that, whne i have school runs to do i get her down earlier so she can still have a good nap before i wake her for the school run :)

Thanks for replying. I find I am turning down invites because they always seem to coincide with his nap time. Perhaps I should just take him but I know he just won 't sleep at all if we are somewhere busy.

you can only try and if he is grumpy you know to give it a miss next time, or try and get him to have an earlier nap on days when you are going out in the afternoon?

with dd if i am going soomewhere and i know she will be tired i will go for a walk on the way, make it elongated and then she sometimes naps in the pushchair.

i have to say i will only let her miss her nap/have a short nap for 2 maximum 3 days in a row or else she gets very tired and grumpy and it messes up her night time sleeping!

My 15mo has a 2hr nap in the afternoon usually 1pm-3pm, or earlier if she is very tired.

She goes to bed around 7.30pm.

She will only have a short nap if we go out at nap time, so I try and avoid this where possible as she gets grumpy so really not worth it.

thanks, I think it's hard for people to understand why I can't do lunch at two but would rather it be earlier or later so ds can nap. I'm not a precious mum but the nap thing can be an issue particularly if eating out.

no i always make lunch dates for 12pm so i can get home and give her a nap!

i am lucky that sometimes when dd is asleep for school run i have a friend how can pick up ds2 and ds3! my friend is great her 2 are 8 and 7 and she wll remembers the days of naps and how important they are.

i can and will be flexible when i can be and have to be but i do try and make sure she has a good nap, its important imo.

I always do lunch dates at 12 too, either that or at around 2.30 (in which case I try and put her down for a nap early around 12.30).

Obviously dome days you just can't avoid going out during nap times, but I find on these days DD is a bit of a grump!
