primary schools linked to the French Lycee in London

Hi I've already posted in the primary school area of this site. But just wondering:

Has anyone on here got any experience of the primary schools that come under the French Lycee umbrella in London, ie Wix in Clapham, Andre Malraux in Ealing, the Fulham schools or the South Kensington site?

Also has anyone got any experience of Ecole Jacques Prevert in Brook Green?

We are considering them for a bilingual child born in the UK and likely to remain here for his school years and would love to hear about experience people have had at any of these schools? Things like how happy the child was / after school clubs for example.

I know some of the above have classes following the French strand only whilst others (Wix and Fulham) also have a bilingual stream. We're undecided yet about which to choose so would love to hear about any experiences.

Hi
Thanks for keeping this thread alive as it has been most helpful hearing of past experience of students and parents!

I was hoping to enrol my child into french school this coming term as i've heard much positive things about the french education system but since reading up on the internet, im now very worried about the inability to foster creativity, confidence and thinking outside the box.
As my husbands is french and i have an english background, we would like her to retain her french heritage by learning to read and write french properly until primary school and switch into english high school (i heard grammer schools are good) afterwards. I'm worried she might struggle as the school as we are looking at enrolling her to the french school in hanwell which i understand is taught mostly in french.
How early do you have to start english tuition and are there recommended places that do this? As i don't speak french, my daughter is not speaking much french at all at home and even though she attends saturday french school, this is not helping her at all hence the decision to send her to french school.

Also i was alarmed of how large the classroom sizes are in public schools and only in private schools are they smaller but unfortunately we can't afford it so french school was a balance.

Also are students continuing the french system able to go a normal english university?

Any advise would be much appreciated!!!

Hi,
Thanks for your posts. All interesting.
My son is 4 and bilingual. We are French parents and would like him to keep a good level in both languages and be able to get into a French school in a couple of years when we will move back to France.
He has been accepted in La Petite Ecole Bilingue in Kentish Town from September 2016 and I would like to have some parents feedback on this school as I have read many different things.
Thank you,

Hi

Boobz
CDG is of a very good standard.
They follow the French national program which has been dumbed down in recent years. The current French education minister is hell bent on reforming the current system which will have the effect of lowering the standards (new pedagogies, no more marks, etc..). Read up about it if you can as it is frightening. This means that we will see the setting up of many expensive Hors Contrat schools (independant from Ministry) in the future. CDG is Sous Contrat (dependant upon Ministry) they will have to implement the new reforms.

Magali,
Your child is in maternelle so I would not worry. I think that La Petite Ecole Bilingue had some disagreements with the French Consulate hence the 'no homologation' and the ' diverse opinions' . I had a friend whose son went there and who was very happy.

Hi all

We're a group of teachers who would like to set up a bilingual English French free school in Greenwich. It would be primary only initially. We're still in the early stages and would be glad to have some feedback on our project. The school would follow the National Curriculum with the same percentage of lessons being taught in English and in French by qualified native speakers only. Do you think there would be enough demand for such a school?

Boobz · 17/06/2016 14:49

Hi Arcenciela - sounds interesting to me.. although not sure we could commute the children to Greenwich.

Arcenciela35 · 20/06/2016 20:21

Hi Boobz

Thanks for your answer. We chose Greenwich as it seems there's a shortage of primary school places there and quite a few bilingual families as well although the school will be for everyone. But the location is not set in stone it could also be Southwark or Lewisham. What would be your maximum traveling time if I may ask?

Boobz · 21/06/2016 08:50

Mine are already into the South Ken lycee so we are looking at houses in Vauxhall which would keep the commute to about half and hour...

Hello, our three children have been going to the Ecole Francaise Jacques Prevert , the older two have successfully moved on to the French Lycee in London Kensington and our youngest one is still at Jacques Prevert.

Jacques Prevert is a little gem in the London market of international independent schools. It was rated "Outstanding" by Ofsted in 2011 and 2018, in all categories. It's a relatively small school with only 2 classes per year group, and about 20-24 pupils per class, which provides a caring friendly environment, in which children flourish.

It's a French school located in Central / West London (postcode W6 7BE), in a lovely residential area. They teach the French curriculum, but a large proportion of pupils there are bi-national, with many different international backgrounds. The school has recently overhauled its English department and the English curriculum, which is taught on top of the French one, is ambitious, with some pupils successfully applying to leading 11+ independent schools when they leave Jacques Prevert.

The school's fees are the very competitive compared to most independent international schools in London, at c. £2000/term - really good value for money for parents interested in an international education for their children, I think?

Finally, parents are very involved at the school and run pro-bono a very large choice of extra-curricular activities, from judo, handball, rugby, football to Zumba, chess, computing, cooking etc.
