Help please, sweet sorrow as the Tooth Fairy passes...

DD is 9yo and has had three teeth come out in the last month (side ones). She has another one that will be out probably tommorow. She still believes mostly that the Tooth Fairy exists and that it is her that deposits the all powerful money.

DD has told me that her friends tell her that it is NOT the Tooth Fairy but actually the PARENTS that deposit the dollars (Australian). I don't want DD to be 15 and still believing (or being duped) and at the ridicule of her school mates, but I also am sad at the passing of a childhood joy.

DD is spending tomorrow night at a girlfriends house for a sleepover (said friend is smashing the myth) and I have asked DD to bring the tooth home if it comes out as the Tooth Fairy like to deliver to the childs house.

I am sure that the friend will challenge my DD and say ' lets, put this tooth out for the TF and see if she comes, and so on and so forth.

If anyone has some wise ideas about this I'd love to hear them (I always veer towards truth but I'd much rather be more ethereal (appropriate?) fairy like than that.

Otherwise I'd love to hear your stories about how the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny and Father Christmas left the forefront of your growing childs imagination .

TIA

My 10 year old DD announced recently that 'Santa doesn't exsist'. I thought that they'd been discussing it at school but apparently not - it was my Mum who told her Shock

Anyway my response was that now i'd have to take over the job of providing Christmas presents as that's what parents do when their children stop believing!

Don't know how much of that she bought but she's going along with it for now!

Hey, thats good, thanks.

Same here - DS1 is 8 years old, and has started to say that some children at school have said Father Christmas/Tooth Fairy etc don't exist. I have told him that magic is a wonderful thing, but if a child stops believing, then the parents take over, and obviously our presents are no where near as good. As he got a Wii last Christmas, which I was reluctant to agree to, he was quite happy to write to Father Christmas!

DSD still believes and we hope she will until the last of the baby teeth leave (6 left)

But how do you break it to them, or do we just wait it out

Ilovethedoctor · 19/04/2012 17:48

Smurfy, I was hoping the teeth would out before the faith but it looks like I might be pipped at the post!

Could you ask the mother to help out and if told put the money under the pillow instead?

Ilovethedoctor · 20/04/2012 00:12

Smurfy, I had thought about that but I haven't known the other mum for long, the girls will no doubt be up late so more risky going in (esp as there's two of them - one who definately doesn't believe). I don't really want to put her out in the early hours, she already has my child overnight. Thanks anyway though.

Out of curiosity, how much money are your DCs getting per tooth?

Beanbagz · 20/04/2012 18:28

First tooth for DD got her £2 because we were out of the coutry and that's all i had in my purse. Second and subsequent ones were £1. Apparently one of her friends get £5!

DS got ?2 for his first as we were going to Spain a few days later. Next one he got £1. That's all he's lost so far.

I have to admit DSD is a very light sleeper so I tend to do the swap when I wake her up, I give her a cuddle to distract and send her to living room then go through saying oh I wonder have you checked whether the fairy has been casual likes lol

She gets £1 for normal teeth and £2 for molars

My tech has not failed in last 2 yrs :)
