Toddler bMed

DS managed to vault out of his cot last night! He's 20 months and he loves climbing so I knew it was coming but his cot is pretty deep and I thought we were still a month away from that so bit of a surprise for me and DH who then had to chase him round the house and heap pillows and towels round the cot when we finally persuaded DS to go to bed in case he decided to get up during the night and hurt himself.

So heading off to Ikea tonight or tomorrow to get him a toddler bed.

Anyone bought one of these out of Ikea recently? ANy particular kind better than another? They vary a hell of a lot in price - one bed frame (without mattress!) is about £150, another is £45. Since time is of the essence and cost is a factor, don't have a lot of time to shop around so think we def will get one out of Ikea...just interested to see how sturdy they are, whether the guard rails are effective, how easy they are to put together, what you get that's better if you get one of their pricier ones...

Also - are people still using sleeping bags when their toddlers move from cot to bed??

Thanks!

My kids had a cot that turned into a junior bed, which was great, but we didn't use it like that for long as they wanted me to be able to lay in bed with them so pretty quickly we got a single bed.

So I would say if you are getting a junior bed go for the cheapest you can if you are not planning on using it for a long time. The plus side of junior beds is that they are lower than normal beds, so easier for kids to get in and out of and not too far if they fall out of them.

For ds1 we had a tomy adjustable bed rail which was good. With ds2 I got it out the loft, but it never made it onto the bed. He only ever fell out noce.

I'd just go straight for a single and buy a bed rail for it. Otherwise it's another load of stuff that will only last a year or two including bedding and everything - surely it makes more sense to buy a bed that'll last till he leaves home.
