Basically that really, but how much money out of it do you pay into Nurserys each time you get a loan? Sept/jan/may ect.

I get around 14K for the year, and I'm just trying to work out how much money i'll have each week to live off, and to check what everyone else is getting as i think i've only got about half of what I'm entitled to this year, but thats a whole other story.

TIA if anyone replies!

Depends how many kids you've got. There is a limit on childcare grant , around £148 for one child IIRC. They pay upto 80% of the cost (up to the cap) and you make up the rest.

£14K sounds a lot to me. I got less than that - approx 11K all in and I have three children (one not needing childcare). One ds was at nursery full time £150 per week and another at before and after school club approx £70 per week.

You should get :

Student Support Loan - 5K?
Special Support Grant - £3K?
Parental Learning Grant - £1.5K
Childcare Grant - £?

Plus Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit.

Maybe some Housing Benefit depending on total income v's rent.

HTH!

What about income support on top of that if you are a lone parent? I believe that if you are an undergraduate or on initial teacher training you can get income support too.

HaleAndPacemaker · 18/05/2012 02:30

Undergraduate single parents do not get income supportduring termtime.

OP you should be assessed for: maint grant & loan, special support grant, dependants grant, childcare grant.

You may also be eligible for housing benefit/lha, child benefit, tax credits.

If you're the only adult in the house and a full time student you shouldn't have to pay any council tax.

If you think that they've calculated it wrong check it against the amounts on their website then call them.

I got around 7k to do my PGCE but paid my own tuition fees. I have one toddler. Think I got child care grant, special support grant and parents learner allowance

call student finance they should be able to give you a rough estimate. Then do your homework on nearby nurseries and even the university child care. Make sure you fill in the childcare grant (CCG) forms with plenty of time as even though student finance is getting better this is processed differently to the usual loans and grants.

Also you have to get the nursery to sign and fill in forms before and during the time they are looking after your child. Keep all receipts. As you may have to pay back if they over pay you.

I know they have not paid any of my child care so far despite sending thye form off three times Hmm
