I have too much time and not enough money so thriftily I have been making extra suppers to use up for lunch the next day.

DD started her nursery school last autumn and the carers all commented on what a good eater she was, how she'd try anything, etc. They told me if she didn't like something I'd sent in and obviously I could also see by what came home whether she liked it or not.

Now we're down to a few good favourites that I can rotate easily.

Yesterday she came home and hadn't eaten anything. It was kedgeree which is normally something she loves. I asked why and she told me it was because it smelled.

What I'm wondering is if one of the other children has commented and made her self-conscious? I was a shy child and something like that would have upset me - and I had to take foul fish paste to school which really did stink.

I know children don't like to stick out from the crowd, and DD isn't uber-confident so I don't think she'd be happy being different.

I guess I'm asking whether I should tone down what I'm sending - swap to sandwiches for a while and see what happens? Or just stick with it?

I would hate to start making DD feel awkward and ashamed but equally I'm quite a food fash and not keen on her having bread every day.

I think fish is probably taking it slightly too far. Mine have had similar issues in the past, but didn't care as they'd rather not have sarnies every day, but they would have been embarrassed if I sent them in with something strong smelling like kedgeree.
