how long to put a 5 week old in baby carrier

Hi there,

I'm a first time mum and have a DD that gets overtired easily and finds it hard to fall asleep. If the crying gets too much (she has been fed, changed and winded), I put her in a baby carrier, which calmes her down straight away. she falls asleep.
Am feeling guilty to silence her in that way and would like to know how long other mums leave their babies in these carriers.
Thanks

I thought you meant a sling/baby carrier?

DS was in a proper sling (not a baby Bjorn type) when he wasn't being fed in the early days so up to 2 hours at a time.

It's good for them if it's a suitable carrier and can be very comforting/reassuring.

Hello Fraktal, I meant a proper sling. We are using a Manduca, I think they are OK for that age. Blimey, think it's time for her to go back in as I am writing this.
She is crying and I cannot determine what it is.
I wish they could talk!

Manduccas are v good :) use it as much as you feel you need. As long as the position is good and it's comfy for both of you there aren't really any negatives to baby wearing at this age :)

ds2 spent most of his first 6 months in the moby as it was the only thing that shut him up!

naturalbaby · 16/04/2012 21:03

all of my 3 spent a lot of time in moby wraps as newborns. dc1 went through a rough patch where I spent most evenings bouncing up and down the stairs till we all collapsed exhausted to bed at night.
overtired and overstimulated was generally the most common problem with mine at a tiny age, by the time I had dc3 he was happy spending most of the day in his moses basket in his room with the blinds closed. It doesn't get any easier when they can talk Wink
