DS2 is a super wee'er, need cloth nappy advice

I am new to the cloth nappy world but I am determined to make a success of it. DS was 1 a couple of days ago and is over 28lb in weight. He is tall and broad and I'm having problems finding nappies to fit. So far I have bumbles and cotton bottoms with a couple of stuffable for quick changes. One of the stuffables only lasted 15 mins before leaking all over the buggy.
I need to change him every 3 hrs or he leaks and I can only just fit his large ME rikki wrap round him.
I'm not sure whether to boost the ones I have or if theres better ones out there or I just need bigger nappies.
Any opinions on ME Sandy's.

ok change to ME airflow wraps! much nicer to use.

how do you find the bumbles? i like mine and you can always stuff another booster inside

I like the bumbles they're so soft and comfy looking, they're just soaked through in no time. I might need to find a super booster as he's learning to walk so I don't want to make it too bulky.

Have you thought about trying a larger wrap? If the wrap is too tight that can be a common cause of leaks. Maybe try an XL Motherease Airflow - I know that the size on the description is 'from 35lb', but I have found that with my dd I need to use a Large over her night-time bumble (which I use with just the one pop-in booster) even though she is only 16lb, to get a good fit. During the daytime (no booster, change every 3-4 hours for a slimmer fit) a medium is fine, but I don't think that it'll last out until the full 20lb. As they have poppers at the legs as well as the waist, you should be able to make it fit well.
Hope that helps,
Jen

Definitely try hemp - there's loads, Little Weeds, Joey Bunz, Ellas House to name but a few, if you can get second hand as they take some washing in before they work well (try the nappy lady classifieds) - they can laso be used in your stuffables and are alot slimmer than terry.

Another one to consider is bamboo (eg Tots Bots Bamboozle or Babeco terry squares pad folded) bamboo is alot slimmer and more absorbant than cotton. You may find that once your boy starts walking he'll slim back to size large but it can't hurt to get XL for now as you are bound to use them. Airflow are excellent but you will need to nippa or pin prefolds to use them (see nappy lady again for instructions).

Oh and to finish, I love sandy's - if he's 28lb do consider trying a toddle-ease (Sandy's XL) rather than Sandy's large as it's abit wider and longer in the rise (it fitted my diminuative son from 20lbs)

Which stuffables are you using?

SalJxx · 08/02/2006 21:58

I'm using Nature Babies stuffable, the ones with the cute patchwork denim design.

It turns out that the leaking may have been down to DS2 being unwell, he's a lot better now and the nappies seem to be able to survive for more than a couple of hours. I am going to look for more suitable slimmer day nappies for him though.

Thanks for the advice xx
