cloth nappies for new born

Hi

I have DD is totsbots all in ones and she will be 18m when dc2 is born. With DD I used disposables for the first week then terrys for a while before getting the totsbots which Dh prefers and thus helped with more changes.

Would you go for dispo again for dc2 or can you recommend a good new.born nappy?

I used totsbots with dd2 right from the start and was v happy with them (with dd1 I used disposables for a couple of weeks then into tots). With both girls I later moved onto mothercare own smart nappies as I found them less bulky for girls to wear and me to wash.

it depends on the weight imo. my son was born at 5lb 10 and dropped below 5lb at one point and for us our only option was disposables and even the smallest sie was bad in those as he was long and thin. if he had been born at 8lbs, however, he would have had disposables in the hospital then in the one size bumgenius we had at home when we went home.

kissaluvz size 0 are a lovely newborn nappy (and fold down for the chord)

mothersease sandys so a newborn size... DD was 7lb and started life on the middle size, so im sure they would fit a much smaller baby

also pop-ins which are one size are cleverly designed to not be stupidly big on a tiny new born... again the first time i put one on, it could have fitted her a LOT smaller than she was

I like the smallest lolliopop wraps which have a cut away shape for the chord

Another vote here for the Mothercare smart nappies, but I'd go for the small size and not the newborn one. DD is 5 weeks old and the newborn size lasted her for only a week or so, and she was under 8 pounds when born. The inserts dry very quickly. I've also used the motherease one size and tots bots cotton nappies (both are the ones that you use a wrap with) on her. Although they do fit they are a bit bulky.

Sorry, I should have also said that the mothercare smart nappies are being phased out. Last time I was in mothercare I bought a pack of medium size smart nappies for £10.99 reduced from over £40.

I have bought a few Lil Joey nappies incase I have another small baby. They are for babies weighing 4lbs-12lbs but I haven't used them yet so can't comment on how good they are.

I used Motherease Sandys, DS was 8lb at birth and went into them as soon as we left hospital. I think we had the small size.

I used terries in a newborn fold (triangle then triangle, secure with a nippa) plus a small wrap, but DS was 8lb4 otherwise I might have used an X'S wrap.
