My 5 month old boy sleeps on his side at night. every night sometimes twice his nappy leaks out of the side that he is lying on. Have tried different nappy types and the bigger size 4+ but nothing stops it.

wwe get this...less so with pampers active fit than any other.....
vest over sleep suit is best combination - pyjama bottoms make it worse

any chance you could chane his nappy before you go to bed without waking huim?

4+ sounds big for a 5 month old....my 11 month old 24lb hulk of a baby has just gone into 4+ - could they be too big?

am123 · 06/02/2006 13:36

he is about 20lbs.He is usually in size 4 but tried 4+ as a last resort.he also wears vest over sleep suit and i have tried active fit. it seems to leak out of non absorbent bit at side.

i could try changing him last thing but he wakes many times during night anyway , that i do not want to risk disturbing him. i think i will try it tonight though. thanks for advice.

cloth nappies?
ds2 wears cloth in the day but mostly dispoables at night....

could be an option?

might have to try cloth.washing can't be anymore than bedding and nightwear that we are going through.

good night ones are stuffies and fluffles....
start a thread and you will get some good advice (am not much of an expert on cloth at night....though I ought to use them more0

Hi

I agree. We used cloth at night when disposables started to leak (and that is the best time to use them to avoid overheating too - v. important for little boys)

Good luck

If he wakes many times in the night, I would just change him then - keep a spare nappy by the bed and whip it on.

I have a 4 month old and still change her once a night, otherwise she leaks.

I'd second (third?) cloth, we use Bumbles which have a fleece lining and can be stuffed so nice and soft and dry next to skin but v absorbant. Coupled with a Motherease airflow wrap (available at Waitrose, if you have one), they work a treat. I use them at night and have just three of them for the purpose - they can be washed at 40 if just wee'd on.

One suggestion tho, don't use popper-under vests at night - they press into the main part of the nappy and then cause gaping at the legs, so the wee just runs straight out.

A good starting point for cloth is Kittykins and The Nappy Lady .

HTH and that you get it sorted soon, Mia

I'd fourth that too. Like Vkone, I use bumbles and Motherease wraps. Have used bumbles for almost two years now with dd at night and I've just bought another 4 for #2 baby. Wouldn't use anything else. They are great.

FWIW, if I ever use disposables, they don't last as long as bumbles do

my son was drinking vast amounts at this age and the only thing to work was if I put a gauze cotton pad inside his nappy to soak up the wee first before it soaked into his nappy... you can buy it from a chemist and cut to fit his nappy...
he was never sore from it and then went back to sleeping through....

We use a a cloth nappy called a Huggle at night, with a wool wrap. They are fab and you can put in extra stuffing to suit your baby's weeing.
Compared to a dispie they are very reliable. We sometimes use disps at night, but the problem we have is poop leaks in the morning. This never happens with a Huggle, no poop gets out.
