Hi everyone, my DS is going to be 1 in over a months time! Its gone so quicky so we are going to have a party tea at home for all our family. Then the day after we are going to take him to chester zoo

What did you do for your ds/dd 1st birthday?
What cake did you get them?
Who came?
Did you do a theme?

I had family round but no party because at 1, they dont know whats going on

I only did that with my PFB too, not subsequent 1st birthdays

Yeah it's deffo somehing you only do for baby no 1!

DS1 had a few friends (ie children of my friends!) round and they ignored each other Smile. I made a cake in the shape of a 1.

DD aged 1 just went along to her brother's party (her b/day is 4 days later), ate strawberries and slept in the pushchair.

DS2 we all went for a walk and then to the movies. DS2 spent most of the time running up and down in the corridor Grin

We also had a few friends round with same age kids with dd1. They don't really understand so I wouldn't go too mad but I did make a cake in the shape of a one yeh But no theme as such....Grin

for both DCs just the family round grandparents and aunts and uncle - no theme - very straighforward cake - its nice for the family and to get some picture but the babies have no idea about birthday!

HOMEMADECHUTNEY · 01/04/2012 23:47

Yes I very much agree - the first birthday pretty much goes over the head of your pfb Grin. .

I think that your baby's first birthday should be an occasion to congratulate yourselves on having survived those very difficult 12 months Grin! Make it as relaxing and enjoyable for you as possible - he sure as heck won't remember.

BTW, if your DS's name is actually Charlie, you have excellent taste - my DS2 shares that name. Hope you have a lovely day, it's nice to have something special to plan, just make sure it's a celebration that you get to enjoy.

Dp had the day off work and we had a day filled with the things dd likes best - took her to baby group as normal but took cakes, had a picnic in the park and went to the playground, skyped the grandparents, ate her favourite things for every meal (including chocolate cake in the shape of a '1'!). The excitement of presents and balloons was enough for her, and we kind of spread the birthday out a bit by seeing family and friends around but not on her birthday. It was lovely, she was happy, we were happy Smile

we bought dd a slide. they still play on it now, 4.5 years on. she also had a "party" at grandparents with a 1 cake. the only cake they haevever had as dd ahas egg allergy and can't eat normal cake and won't eat egg free cake.

We took my ds to the aquarium with his granny and grandad. He LOVED looking at the fish! We then went for lunch in giraffe. I know he would have been totally bewildered by a party with lots of other children and prob wouldn't have enjoyed it half as much.

His auntie made him a cake shaped into a bus (he waves at every bus he sees!) and for a birthday present we asked an artist friend to make a paper cut and had it framed to put on his bedroom wall.

We bought him some lovely beeswax crayons from Myriad, and a Waldorf toddler doll that has become his favourite sleepy-friend.

I made a strawberry Victoria sponge and had family over, plus a couple of friends.
