7 month old not settling well

My 7 month old DS has come out of his routine due to be poorly, chicken pox, secondary skin infection, bronchiolitis and then possibly whooping cough - waiting for results.

Its been a tough time, for him and me, i'm 10 weeks pregnant with 3rd child, having also not long recovered from severe Post Natal illness having been hospitalised. So im a tad bit exhausted but my main priority is to be on top form for little man, I am struggling a little but its due to lack of sleep, 4 hours last night and similar the night before, I cant sleep much at the moment, I feel tired physically but cant seem to knod off easily.

I really need to get DS routine back on track for both of us...he has also gone off his food, so pretty much just having his milk, although he has just had some baked sweet potatoes chips.

Do you have any advice to give that could help us?

Didn't want to leave you unanswered as it sounds like you have had a really rough run of things lately.

Unfortunately I don't have any great advice to give though as I'm pretty crap with routines myself but I will try.

I wouldn't worry too much about the food while he is sick - if milk is all he is taking well just focus on that it has everything he needs (can offer solids but no stress if he doesn't want them).

In terms of sleeping I would try and get his bedtime back on track with a bedtime routine (my 6mo DS has bath, story feed/lullaby to sleep). Then maybe focus on getting his naps sorted.

Is there someone who can help and give you a chance to nap/have a lie in? You sound like you really deserve a break.

Really hope it helps and hope the bump means someone else might answer soon. Otherwise posting in the sleep section might help.

I have reported the post above.

mummy23x poor you, it sounds like a rough time.

Don't worry about the food. He'll eat when he's feeling better.
Do you give him vitamin drops? Abidec are the ones I use. It is reassuring to know DS is getting vits and iron even when not eating.

I agree with not being too hard on yourself, why not try to tackle one bit of a routine every couple of days. I'd go for bath & bed as the easiest, then first nap and take it from there.

I'd also have a Google for 'sleep hygiene' tips for yourself. You might find you are having tea late at night, or other daft things that you don't notice when you are brain dead from sleep deprivation. I found I was watching loads of tv late at night which didn't help.

If you can get someone to help out for q few days that might help (maybe over the long weekend?)

Don't be too hard on yourself. I remember when Ds had gastroenteritis when he was 10 months old, took ages to get any routine back. It came with time though, I recall someone telling me it takes only about 2 days for a routine to be broken but will take a couple of weeks to get it back on track. Take it slowly, it will all come good in the end

antidote shelscrape thank you for your kind words and advise, He seems to be getting much better in himself :) Also Ive realised why he is settling, due to him being poorly id rock him to sleep as he was so unwell and anxious, now he's used to it. I am going to put the rocking chair back in his nursery and read to him before bed...very good advice.

What were the posts that were deleted??? I never read them!
