My DD IS almost 3 weeks old. I am breast feeding but slowly introducing formula. She had 2 x 4 oz bottles yesterday and the same today but all else she has is breast milk. She had been pooing with almost every feed but now hasn't for 24 hrs. I gave her a little cooled boiled water which seems to have comforted her but still no poo, should I be worried???
I called health visitor this morning and left a message but no one has called me back !?

When my ds was around the same age, he didnt poop for 3 days, i ended up getting some medicine for it. He was fine in himself tho. the HV told me it was his system adjusting to the new formula. Keep going with the cooled boiled water too cos they will help. She will go soon! :)

I drove myself mental with my ds when he was a similar age to your lo as he was being mix fed and didn't poo for 3 or 4 days. I was absolutely neurotic about it at the time, iirc! Now i look back i think i spent a lot of his very little babyhood constantly worrying. Your baby will poo again, they all do! When my ds went I felt like there should be a day of national celebration! Cool boiled water helps. If they seem uncomfy, pop them up to the gp but I don't think there's too much to worry about. Betcha this isn't your last
Poo related worry! Congrats on your lovely tiny baba. Grin

When ds was 4 months old he didn't poo during an entire weeks visit to my inlawsShock.

He decided to most appropriate place to unburden himself was on the return journey on the motorway.

It took both of us to clean him up, he was covered from knee to neck.

I really wouldn't worry, pooing can be very erratic.

24 hours is nothing to worry about.
Babies can sometimes store it up for several days and then let it all go at the least possible convenient time for their parents. Knee to neck is not an exaggeration.

My DS2 once went over a week, don't worry about a couple of days unless there are other symptoms. When you say 'comforted her' what was wrong?

My dd was always a bit erratic in her pooing - went a week in between poos several times. My hv said it was quite common with bf babies as nearly all the breastmilk gets absorbed.
