Where does your baby sleep during the day?

quick question! I have a 4 week old daughter and she is tending to have shortish naps throughout the day currently in a variety of places - on a cushion on the sofa, in her swing seat, in push chair, in her car seat always in quite a noisy living room. Do you think it is best for babies to be put somewhere quiet e.g. Bedroom in Moses basket or just where they happen to fall asleep?

I always left mine where they fell asleep. Being around a bit of noise whilst asleep is not a bad thing as this will aid them when they get older and go to bed before you do, so you can carry on doing bits in the house once they are down without this disturbing them. Also if you have more children, having that additional noise wont bother them when their younger siblings are up during the night. I have 3 DD's and the older two quite happily sleep through their baby sisters night time cries.

I always made sure that the house was relatively quiet of an evening for the big sleep, but not total silence. I didn't want my children to not be able to sleep in the quiet of night. But as for day time sleeps, I just let them sleep and carry on around them. As my girls got older I did start to put them in their cots for day time naps, but to be honest this was more to do with the fact that I didn't want them to roll off the sofa and get hurt (DD3 is nearly 6 months and very active rolling and nearly crawling, so hazzards are everywhere)

For me, having the baby in the room with me always worked well. Do what ever suits you best

Naps should be in the same room as you to reduce the risks of SIDs (obviously you can potter about the house as necessary) so wherever she falls asleep is fine. Mine would sleep in her Moses basket, swing or in my arms.

My 18wo twins nap either in a travel cot in our living room, or in their pram if we're out and about. I think its a good idea to get them used to napping with some background noise so that they don't wake at the slightest noise! For obvious reasons they don't sleep in my arms, but even if I only had one DC I would not do this as you might find difficulty in putting them down in a cot when they are older.

(I don't think sleeping on the sofa is a good idea, I know that at 4wo its not likely to be a problem but your DD will one day learn to roll and its good to get into good habits from the start, sorry if that sounds judgy)

I have them near me, where ever they drop off, it's quite handy from a noise point of view, DC3 will sleep with all-sorts of chaos going on around him (especially if he is in the sling).

Thanks - I agree re the sofa - she only sleeps there if I'm in the room too!
