Too much poo to handle! (Real nappy moan)

We're using cloth nappies for the most part with DS1, now 10 months, but in spite of using disposable liners, his poo has recently been so messy it also gets over half of the nappy (eugh). Blush

I've been scraping it off with loo paper which is slow and pretty gross...any other tips? Could I rinse it off down the bath or is that pipe not designed for that kind of waste?

Think I just wanted to let off steam after dealing with 6 nasty poos in 2 days! on the bright side, it's lovely weather for drying the nappies and getting the stains out in the sun! Grin

Stick it down the loo and flush or soak in water with a drop of white vinegar or tea tree oil.

We used to rinse out the pooey nappies before putting them in the pail bucket, and hated it. Then I talked to a friend who was using the same nappies and found out what she did with the soiled ones - which was absolutely nothing.

Since then we don't bother scraping or rinsing, the nappies go straight in the bucket (or rather box, as we needed something bigger), where they stay until they get washed. It all comes out, and the stains are taken care off by the sun. You just have to make sure that you have a very tight-fitting lid Grin

i much prefer fleece liners to paper ones

the poo "rolls" off it straight into the toilet which is much more pleasant than paper liners i find
cut up fleece throws work fine

any poo on the nappy i ignore, i dry pale them, wash every 4th day (rinse followed by 60c wash) and they come out clean

I know how you feel LoobyLou, it is gross when it gets everywhere. My DP scrapes it off with his hand covered in a nappy sack . I have to admit I have chucked a few fleece liners in the bin because I couldn't face the mess!! Only cheapo fleece from an old Ikea blanket though. Have just stocked up on paper liners now his teeth are coming through...

I like these spunlace flushable liners. They are a nice size and very soft. I didn't like fleece as my boys got rashy bums and I hated papery paper ones because they were so... papery.

LoobyLou33 · 06/04/2012 22:55

swampster Grin - yes I agree about the papery ones! Thanks for the tip about the spunlace ones...

I leave poo stains on the nappy, but not lumps of poo! They end up in the rubber bit of the washing machine near he door...clean perhaps but yuk!

curly I think i's teething here which has made it worse lately - it's another level of gross when that's going on isn't it!

another vote for fleece.

Fleece liners all the way. Agree with the stick them down the loo (holding tightly) and flush. The shower attachment on our bath taps also just stretched far enough to slush the poo down the loo, which was the most effective way.

In regards to not rinsing the nappies, a cautionary tale.... I've twice had to unblock the waste pipe of our washing machine with those dynorod type things as it's got completely gunked up. I'm sure that several years of nappies played their part in this...

Zimbah · 11/04/2012 21:21

I'm very lucky that we have a shower next to the loo so I can use the shower hose to rinse off the nappy into the loo, if any poo escapes the liner. Could you use one of those shower hose converters that attach onto normal taps, from your basin, and rinse it over the loo?

I use viscose little lamb liners or a bambinex one. Have never got on with fleece liners as they gave both DD's a rash.

Magneto · 11/04/2012 21:27

I rinse the poo off the liners in the bath and flush it down the plughole Blush the shower hose won't reach the toilet and the toilet flush doesn't rince anything off them, it just soaks the liner.

I'm sure it is the fault of ds's poos though. If he had a week of consistently solid poos I'd probably have a party in honour of them.
