when dd is constantly weeing and pooing in pants. She now knwos what she's doing and says after the event if asked where she should have done said wee or poo that it should have been on the potty but doesn't do it!!!! Arghhh!!! i always say when she tells me she's done wee wee where shouldu have done it and she says potty and i say next time do wee wee in potty but i'm wondering if this si the right approach as it doesn't seem to be sinking in. Plus she's very reluctant to sit on potty at other times. When she does i pray for a wee or poo so i can praise her t the skies. i've tried sticker/chocolate reward but doesn't make any difference. Do u think it might be better to ignore when she has accident and just clear it up - do i seem tobe nagging? HELP PLEASE

how old ? Is she/has she been clean and dry for a long period yet ? If not I'd suggest you leave it as she doesn't soudn ready if this happens on a very regular basis.

sorry don't know how long you have been going, and i am quite new to this, so forgive me if stating the obvious but my dd has done quite well.

The best advice I followed was Cod's (see recent potty training threads) the first two days I just took her every twenty minutes, like it or not - bribed with sweets if necessary - but she had to sit on potty or toilet, sometimes got a wee, sometimes didn't, but then she learnt what it felt like. Then if successful she got a sticker and a smiley face on her chart, if had an accident cleared up with no fuss but we had to put a sad face on the chart (Has to be some consequence IMO, but I agree nagging doesn't seem to help). Meant we got about thirteen wees a day once she realised a little dribble would earn her all that fuss, but that settled down after a few days. I really hope you get somewhere x Also, what about immediately take her to the toilet when you notice she is doing it (if you spot her) then psychologically she will start to associate that feeling with running to the toilet and will learn what to do

she's 2.4 and i did try her earlier on and we did have some success with wees and poos in the potty when she was stillin nappies but i put her on the potty to get used to it. This time after a couple of days of not knowing she knew what a wee was! I have a feeling that she will be like this whatever age we start and therefore don't want to put it off again. I've tried putting her on the potty whens he's started weeing but she resists - that's why ithought the toilet might be worht a go - if she's not comfortable r doesn't like the potty for some reason I've bought her a winnie pooh toilet seat (loves wp) and its a padded one so might give that a go ina few days time!

she is still quite young..... you can teach ANY child to say "in the potty" when you ask them something, if they hear it often enougn... it may just be that she is repeating it back to you, but really doesn't quite know what to do.

Personally I wouldn't push it... if she isn't ready then no amount of trying on your part will help. you;ll just have loads of washing!

if she resists, it's definitely not the right time. my dd2 is 2.8 and "got it" within 3 days, because she was ready.

knat · 02/02/2006 22:22

i think she does understand about going in the potty but whether she knows in enough time i don't know or she just doesn't like or is nervouse of the potty i'm not sure. I do agree that she can just be taught to say in the potty and i'm thinking of changing tack on that and seeing how she goes. I know waht everyone says about being ready but i really think she's showing enough signs of readiness in other areas and i think unless she gets really upset it's worth perserving - i think i would only be posting the same if she was 3
