Decision time - 5 offers!

I have got 5 conditional offers for this September! (chuffed to bits with myself) I don't know which to accept so am asking you for help. 2 are for RG uni and 3 for an ex poly. I have been on an applicant say for the ex ploy and it was great but the tutors said I would be better at the RG! If I do chose the RG uni do I chose the 3 year BA or the integrated MA over 4?

The courses are all history. I can meet the requirements at the RG if I don't f up between. Iw and the end of June.

Sorry for rambling, but need to get it off my chest and get unbiased opinions.

You need to choose your uni based on the course and if you think it's suitable for you.

I know certain unis names carry more weight than others but that doesn't reflect on the quality of teaching or what you'll take away from your time there.

If you can, go to all of them, speak to the lecturers, talk to students who are already there. That's the only real way to find out which one is right for you.

Oh and congratulations! Wine

5 offers! Wow, which ever one you choose I'm sure you'll love, is there a difference in fees? I don't know much re: history so can't advise on whether employers etc would care the uni you read at.

Congratulations

I know! I never dreamt I would get all of them! Fee difference is £1k. I'm going to go and visit the RG again and do some research into career paths for ex graduates at both. I think that just getting the offers is a huge achievement in itself and I'm very proud of myself. Especially with the constraints of 2 little horrors munchkins. Grin

Maybe ought to get degree:

BA (Hons) (Horrors) History, so everyone realises extra effort involved - I have 3 boys and I check the post for my medal everyday.

Roll on Sept so we can really get stuck in!!!

Reading back, sounds bitchy, am not being honest.

Well done on doing post grad research, never even thought of that.

For a traditional academic subject like History, RG every time, no question. There will be good teachers and good researchers at the ex polys (probably - there is HUGE variation among ex polys) but the depth and breadth of the research culture underpinning the dept, and the quality of the other students, will be different at the RG uni.

Do you have to commit yourself re the BA/MA choice now? can you switch from one to the other if you change your mind?

hermionestranger · 20/03/2012 13:49

I can accept the ma now but finish with a BA after 3 years or apply for another MA at the end or do the integrated.

Open day at RG is tomorrow afternoon, they emailed me yesterday afternoon to invite me. Frantic childcare arranging as Dh can't take day off and I'll go and see what's what.

The RG is university of manchester and the ex-poly is now MMU.
