tesco wooden train set - what type of wood is it?

is it beech (like the brio ones) or something cheaper?

my dc has a brio set and I would like to add to it but don't want to get the tesco one if the quality is noticeably worse or the wood different. the tesco website doesn't specify the type of wood.

thanks in advance for any help!

it's fine.....we had loads of brio and mixed and matched it with the tesco stuff.

I suspect pine but we have a mixture of both and they work well together.....the kids ruin the look with pen, pencil and dirt anyway!!!

It goes with brio very well. We have boxes of the stuff that my two get out on the decking in the summer and build a very large rail system.

Found some boxes of stations and points that we didn't use.

We also have a mix and when they are all mixed up in the basket we store them in I can't tell which is Brio, Tesco or Big-jigs. I'm sure your DC will be more than happy to have the extra track, regardless of what wood it is.

BTW, just realised that my post sounds a bit blunt, but was not intended! I just meant that it is all as good as each other and that your DCs will be more than happy with it all! Smile

We have Brio, tesco and a big cheap set from I can't remember where. All work together fine, except the cheep tunnel is too low for the psh Brio engines that take plastic drivers.

Not sure, but it is very strong. We bought loads twelve years ago. It was played with for an entire decade the dcs and their friends and we have recently passed it on to another family.

We have a mix here too, ds it the tesco one when he was 18 months old, and it has been accessorised with big jigs and brio and is currently masquerading as the island of sodor all over my living room floor. I have to stop myself going on amazon to buy more as I never have enough to do what I want Hmm Grin.

Some of the Ikea stuff can be tricky as the plastic locking bits can be hard to push in to wooden holes in Brio but Tesco is great and very good value.Bigjigs are excellent too.

thanks all!

Agree with grey the Ikea stuff is the only stuff that doesn't mix well, although the plastic ends are handy for pushing out when you end up needing a female/female or male/male piece. And the Ikea tunnel is too low for Brio trains.
