Lock on bedroom door?!

Only half kidding!

DD (2) has finally grown tall enough to open her bedroom door. Up until now she has been the perfect sleeper but of course now she just wants to use her new trick all the time and come out! She keeps appearing in the living room - hands over her eyes - Yes DD, I can still see you. Grin How do I keep her in?

DS did this too.

We left his bedroom door open with a stairgate in the opening.

We live in a bungalow and so you have to walk past DDs room to get to kitchen/livingroom/bedroom so can't really leave her door open. DH gets up for work at 2am also so would wake her getting ready if her door was open. Can't see a way to get a stair gate on and still shut the door?

Will have to lock the outside doors too, am in the horrors that she lets herself outside.

We put a child gate on dd2's bedroom to stop her doing this. It worked a treat.

Do not put a lock on the door, safety issue more than anything.

Stairgate or just keep getting up and putting her back to bed, until she gets the message. You can put stairgates on so you can shut the door.

Get one of those clamp ones that you can take off easily. Just take it off once she's asleep.

Have you tried the Supernanny 'stay in bed' technique?

Seems ridiculously painful the first few nights - especially when they just find it utterly hilarious and giggle the whole time. But it does work, and they will get bored.
We spent 4 hours doing it with DD2 the first night.. lost count the number of times that she came out. Night 2 took us about an hour. 3rd night she came out about 10 times. 4th night came out once. Done.
Every time that your DD comes out the bedroom, give her no eye contact, take her by the hand and swiftly take her back to her room. no talking at all. Place her in her bed and walk out.
My DD is strong willed and very stubborn - Im sure that your DD won't take anywhere near as long!

Sounds like your DD gets her strong will from you KateShmate Grin

Respect to you for being determined enough to get that technique to work I was far too lazy

KateShmate · 16/03/2012 18:34

hahaha Zuzu - I'm not sure if thats a good thing or not!
It was bloody hard work, and i can see exactly why people give up after the tenth time, thinking it won't work.
We really had tried everything though, short of cutting off her legs so that she physically couldn't get out of bed.. we had nothing to lose!
