i have searched for weeks but i just can't find the right one!
i know i want wood
i would prefer a slanted ladder or chunkier steps
needs to be no wider then 103cm
price wise anything up to £500, i want a decent one which will last

I saw some nice ones on aspace - but they were pricy as you pay for the mattresses on top of the frame.

ifeelloved · 12/03/2012 19:20

I recommend flexa, though they are pricey

scabbysnake · 12/03/2012 19:33

thanx Smile
just looked on aspace - some lovely ones but the 2 i like are over £750!
looked at flexa before & they are out of my price range too

Warren Evans. They do smaller sizes too and range of colours.

Aspace quality really NOT good.

QuietNinjaLamp · 12/03/2012 19:38

I don't know if it's the right size but I was in ikea yesterday and saw some wooden bunk beds for £99. Think the range was mydal. They're on their website if you want to look.

QuietNinjaLamp · 12/03/2012 19:39

Oh sorry the ladder isn't slanted though.

SparkyMcSparrow · 12/03/2012 19:41

You want exactly what my friend has got. iu think she got hers from very. Have you tried there?

thisisyesterday · 12/03/2012 19:41

thuka

madwomanintheattic · 12/03/2012 19:41

the aspace jack and jill ones have been going strong here for 8 years and through 5 moves including international shipping (and lots of taking aoart and outting back together to swap rooms in the meantime). Grin i have no idea if the quality has been cut back of late though, it wouldn't surprise me. the original ones are awesome.

SparkyMcSparrow · 12/03/2012 19:43

This any good?

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 12/03/2012 19:47

thuka are excellent!

thisisyesterday · 12/03/2012 19:49

here

that's where we got ours from although you may be able to find them at a different price elsewhere online, but they're only just over your budget

reasons we love Thuka:
they're versatile. you can split them. turn them into midsleepers or highsleepers, and you can get a short version too which can later be turned into a full-size bed if you are short on space

they're very well made and incredibly sturdy

the extras- safety bits like the treads for the steps and the handrail, the clip on bedside table, the lamp, the tents etc

can have sloping or straight ladder

scabbysnake · 12/03/2012 19:54

warren evans looks good!
was the ikea one sturdy?
looked on very but will have another look
i love the thuka ones but they take a slightly larger mattress & i thought that would be a pain & then getting sheets to fit
sparky - i saw that one about an hour ago & liked it but not enough - think its the colour

OP posts:
scabbysnake · 12/03/2012 19:57

saw that site & thats where i was adding all the bits for the thuka and then saw that it takes a bigger mattress, how do you find it? getting fitted sheets & that?

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 12/03/2012 20:06

i think they just have a regular single mattress don't they?

we have them as shorty beds at the moment which IS a pain re:sheets lol

scabbysnake · 12/03/2012 20:07

oh no it was bedz r us & i was trying to work out the difference between all of them if you can change the bits about?

OP posts:
scabbysnake · 12/03/2012 20:08

no they take european sixe which is 10cm longer i think

Thuka beds take Ikea sized mattresses - and Ikea deliver too. We've got a mixture of Ikea fitted sheets and whatever was in the cupboard and they all fit.

We have Thuka bunks from Rainbow Wood.

captainbarnacle · 12/03/2012 20:15

We have these bunks www.simplykidsbeds.co.uk/acatalog/Steens_Bunk_Bed_Natural_Laquer__360.00.html (not from this site though) and love them!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/03/2012 20:19

We have Thuka beds and mattresses from Rainbow Wood and fitted sheets from Ikea (which are too big if anything but were v.cheap)

thisisyesterday · 12/03/2012 20:23

ahh ok, that does make sense actually as they're a scandinavian brand aren't they

so yeah, Ikea mattresses/sheets should fit.

I buy sheets for the shorty beds from this place as they'll make them to measure. they're quite expensive, but they are made in the UK and they're really very, very good quality. very thick cotton jersey

scabbysnake · 12/03/2012 20:55

captainbarnacle - they are nice, they look high-are they?
swaying towards thuka now but all the extra bits i want the boys need soon adds up

OP posts:
captainbarnacle · 12/03/2012 21:56

Not sure how high they are - as they are currently being used ;) - but my 5yr old and 3yr old do well in them. They're also scandinavian and 200cm long mattresses are needed.

I looked at the thuka but was more expensive and didnt look as robust. The Steen come with additional parts in the range - we have the chests of drawers to match - and a choice of finishes on the wood. I also liked the fact that it was solid all the way around and so more difficult to tie things to swing off and be a superhero... Moved house last week and dismantled them and reassembled relatively easy. One year's worth of wear and tear and they are almost as good as new. No accidents or anything. I liked the stepladder because it's wider at the base, but their previous bedroom was very narrow so I couldnt have the big sloping time ladders.

I bought them from this site www.themanorfurniture.com/index.php?function=DISPLAYRANGE&code=169

wigglesrock · 12/03/2012 22:14

I have the Ikea Mydal ones for my 6 and 4 year old, we've had them for about a year. My dds love them, we've had no accidents and they are up and down them all the time. In fact they both prefer to sleep together in the top bunk Grin.
