Can I have some advice on carseats?

Hi all,

I have a ds who is nearly 8m. He has nearly grown out of his maxicosi cabriofix. So I need a new car seat. I've always been told Maxi were the best and to buy those ones. TBH I haven't a clue. I've found This which looks nice but can anyone advise me if it's any good and worth the money?

Thanks

Is his head above the back of the seat? If not, he is not too big for the seat (it is ok for their legs to be over the front of the seat). He is not too heavy for his seat until he is over 20lbs. It also depends whether you want to keep him rear facing for longer (there are seats that rear face until 4). I did use the maxi cosi priori xp and it was a good seat - both dd and ds got use out of it.

8m is too young to go forward facing. His liitle spine and neck won't withstand the impact yet in the case of an accident. As Seona says their legs normall grow longer, then fold them back in like little frogs. Grin (Ex baby carseat fitter here.)
maxi Cosi seat should actually take upto 23lbs, but some babies (my DD2 included) are very long in the body and heads reach the top too soon. Make sure you've taken the little bum pad out, that'll give you an extra inch.
If he's really right at the top you should look for a car seat that can stay rear facing for a while longer. Obviously the upto 4 rf seats are more expensive, but the Britax First Class for example would do the job and fits in most cars due to an alternative fitting route.
DD2 outgrew her Bebeconfort creatis at about 8m, but stayed rear facing in her first class till 15m. Much safer.Smile

Enter your car details here, then look for the first class.

We have the priori and it's brilliant, but I waited ages and ages to move them from a rearward facing seat to a front facing as I was paranoid! It doesn't really matter if their legs are a bit scrunched up...

Dd was in her maxi cosi infant carrier till 18 months, she is 26 months now and is still below the weight limit and head not over the top.
Make sure the pad is out and pull his bum down a bit more and you should have plenty room still.

My 13month old is still in his rear facing seat, it's a 0+ and suitable up to 15months. The top of his head is only just about in line with the top of the car seat so I'm keeping him in it for a bit longer as rear facing is safest.

Thank you for the replies. No his head isn't quite at the top. He's just a very long boy! I think I';ll wait a bit longer until his head is near the top then change.
