Daytime nap

Hi!
DD2 is 2 and 4 months and seems to not need to nap during the day any more. Bedtime is becoming difficult. What's the best way to wean her off her 1 hour lunchtime sleep? Is she too young to go without any sleep?
Thanks :)

I don't understand.

Do you mean that she wants the nap, but you don't think she needs it?

Why is bedtime difficult?

Hi,
She happily has a nap at about 1pm. I wake her after about an hour, then at bedtime- has always been 6.30pm as we get up early, she isn't ready for sleep! We were away at the weekend and DD only got about 30mins sleep in the car, bedtime was a dream, asleep in 2 mins. How shall I go about dropping the nap? My eldest is 4 so I can't remember!!
Thanks

You've got your answer in your last post. Cut the nap down to 30 mins. It will mean waking her which if you're against means you'll have to wait until she drops it naturally and accept that bedtime might be affected.

My daughter was 2 when she dropped her nap so I dont think 2.4 is too young.

Sorry! Just reread the bit about you waking her!!!

I would cut the nap to every other day. my DD is 3 next month and hasn't napped at home for a few weeks now, just catnaps in the car or buggy. This has been a very gradual process since she was just over 2.

You just stop the nap! They get a bit grumpy late in the afternoon until they adjust and that is that - and you are back to dream bedtimes. My DD1 kept napping until about 2.7 with no effect on her bedtime. DD2 and DS started not going to bed properly from before they even reached two and much to my distress (I loved having the post lunch break while they napped) i dropped their naps as bed time was more important to me. They would still have happily slept for 2 hours after lunch and then stayed up until 9pm. They coped fine. As I said, late afternoon was often a bit grumpy for a bit, but bring supper forward by 15- 30 mins and that helps. DS (nearly 3) will still often drop off for 15 mins in the car on the afternoon school run and would love to sleep for longer, but is fine if he doesn't and passes out the minute his head touches the pillow at 7pm.
