Employment for people with SN

Someone I know is looking to recruit 1 or 2 people for office administrative jobs.

Can anyone suggest ways of reaching out to people with disabilities? The plan so far is to make it obvious/prominent that these positions are open to everyone (vacancies are advertised on monster), but are there organisations or maybe charities who would help to raise visibility of these vacancies specifically to people with SN?

This idea is a reflection on the experience of employing someone who was healthy and capable, but acted as if he was doing a favour by just turning up (not always even that though!)

Thank you.

Depending on where you are in the country, there may be vocational advisors who could promote the vacancies. We used to have vocational advisors who supported people with mental health problems or learning disablities based in community mental health teams, day services or with charities such as MIND. However with all the government cuts, these posts are becoming more rare! Also worth contacting Enham, a charity that works with people with physical or learning disability or the Shaw Trust (both have websites if you google them). Otherwise, employment and training organisations such as Maximus.

Try the Shaw trust and ring the job centre and ask to speak to their disability advisor.

Another possibility, depending on the sort of job, is to make contact with the local college or 6th form and talk to their inclusion department. School leavers with a sn struggle more than most to get a toe into the job market.

sashh, Dustinthewind - thanks, much appreciated!
