3 yr old too old for toys and teddies

I went to a music group with my son, my friend and her daughter today. Her daughter has just turned 3 and as we were leaving I noticed there was a teddy on the side and I said to my friend 'is that ruby's teddy?" and she looked at me shocked and said Ruby is 3 she is far too old for teddies now!! I no they have no plastic cutlery/plates or cups anymore everything is glass and china, the buggy was sold the day after her second birthday and i notice when we go round to hers there is very few toys as she has said before she is too old now for toys! Just seems that they are making her grow up so quickly and my kids still have teddies and toys and we have a buggy in case my 3 yr old gets tired. I just think this little girl is missing out on being 3!! I don't know if I should say something to her or keep my nose out as it is up to her how she brings up her child. Just wondering if it is perhaps me keeping my kids kids too long so wanted other opinions to see what is the norm!!

I too have a friend who acts much older despite only being 31. She's very serious and literal and I've never really seen her messing about or acting childlike (she doesn't drink, or dance when we go out). she doesn't have children but hopes to soon - I can see her being the same as your friend (but hope to be proved otherwise).

I still have a favourite teddy and I'm 32.

She seems happy enough and her mum seems to do alot with her such as music groups, library visits but everything geared to a +5 child rather than an under 5, so that is all that matters really, just seems a shame that she is making her grow up so quickly, but each to their own!!

ds is 6 and got his very first build a bear at christmas which he sleeps with every night. some parents do seem to want their dc's to grow up far to fast.

I don't know. I think dd went through a stage where she was too big for cuddly toys at 3, she now has firmly got them back at nearly 6! They never disappeared in our house as we had ds.

My friend brought up her boys abroad as toddlers they had a small bucket full of toys thats it! They aw normal teenagers now

Maybe she meant it in a wry sense?

DD1 is 3 and always announcing herself to be "too big" for things she is clearly not too big.

So I can imagine saying "oh no, that couldn't be her, she's far too grown up for teddies" to a friend who made such an enquiry.

(Teddies is not one of those things, she is very involved with all her "guys" of various shapes and sizes, but she would be disgusted if someone suggested she do a jigsaw with only a few pieces, or whatever.)

why not just ask what her DD plays with and see what she says.
or Google the importance of play, then just tell her about an something you'v read.
i read up on stuff all the time and tell friends about it, then its up to them.
if you are friends, then you must talk about something.
