B fed baby on solids. Is it a myth that teething causes squitty nappies?

My ds has been having several horrid nappies a day for a week or so now with no other signs of illness/sickness . He is eating fine and bfeeding ok.

Is unpleasant for me but he doesn't seem bothered. Is this normal? Does anyone else's baby have loose nappies several times a day? Could this be an allergy - he is on some cows milk in breakfast. He is 7 months btw.

Sounds normal to me, but you must be guided by your instincts.

if it smells vomity it is a teething nappy IME.

Is he crawling yet? Or rolling over ? They start to pick up dirt fomr the floor when they become more mobile which can make their nappies a bit squitty.

Mine have always done lots of runny poos when teething. Yeh, and they do tend to smell 'vomitty' and can sometimes be quite acidy too (can turn bum red quite quick). Sounds quite normal. If it was a milk intolerance I would have thought there would be other symptoms, ie stomach cramps and the poos would smell AWFUL. (DS1 had a milk intolerance). Keep an eye. If you are worried mention it to your HV when you next see her.

whenever mine is teething, foods go right thru her (pong!)

Ta everyone
So you would definately know if he had an dairy intolerance/allergy?

allergy yes. intolerance is much harder to detect. Even tests can sometimes show clear. You could try stopping all cows milk for few days and see if poos get better.

Or could just be his tummy adjusting to a little bit of cows milk and not actually an intolerance IYSWIM. I wouldn't be too quick to jump on the milk allergy/intolerance waggon. I would keep doing what you are doing for the moment. As I said, you could try cutting milk out and see if it improves and if it does then re-introduce it and see if the poos go back runny again. That is probably the only way to tell.
