What changing bag to use with the ergo?

I need a new changing bag. The one I have is completely impractical. I always carry DD in a baby carrier and my changing bag constantly slips down my arm, or DD manages to kick it somehow and knock it off. I seem to be spending most of my time either tripping over it or accidentally bashing people with it.

I don't drive so it needs to fairly big so I can fit everything into it. I was going to get a rucksack one but DD is going to have to go on my back fairly soon as she's getting quite big.

Any recommendations?

I don't drive either and used to use a bumbag with the sling. Nappy, a few wipes, purse, phone, keys. I can't think of anything else to put in there!

Is it just me then that goes out prepared for every possibility?

I always have nappies, wipes, nappy bags, 2 changes of clothes, bottles, formula, some snacks, toys, a book for DD, Muslins, a bib, a dummy. I keep my purse and phone in the pocket of the ergo. I honestly use all the things I take with me. I must be doing something wrong.

Thankyou for the recommendation, I shall take a look Smile

Oh wait do you mean an actual bumbag? I thought it was a brand of bag. How do you manage with so little? Am very Envy

sorry, just realised you'd said DD was going on your back soon, so maybe not so good!

Octaviapink · 23/02/2012 15:00

I never bothered with a change of clothes or more than one nappy - worst case scenario (this happened once) was popping into Boots to buy a new pair of tights.

I also carry things for every eventuality and find a change bag that I can hold in my hand rather than using a shoulder-strap works well. I got one from Mothercare, but if I were buying one now would be very tempted by the new ones from Next.

BroomForMyChin · 23/02/2012 15:05

I really do need the changes of clothes. We're doing baby led weaning and she ends up covered in food. She also still seems to love weeing while I'm changing her. Shall have a look at mothercare and next.

I find that if I have dd on my back than a mid size handbag with a shoulder strap long enough to go diagonally works best.

Jokat · 23/02/2012 21:02

OP just to reassure you, I also need all that stuff with me and do use it. Dd is brilliant at(at least occasionally) pooing in such a way that it seeps out the back or in between her legs, and she poos several times a day. So I need to be covered at all angles. Also need one or two bottles depending on how long I'm out for, formula container etc, so it's not just you :) Unfortunately I can't help you with a good bag recommendation.

BroomForMyChin · 23/02/2012 22:34

Thanks jokat. Glad to know its not just me.

ramblng this is probably a stupid question but is it safe to wear a bag across your body/and baby? I've been avoiding doing it in case it will somehow hurt DD but it's definitely the most practical option. I am just being a bit lot pfb?

OP I just put the strap between the top of the sling and my neck of I've got a diagonal bag strap (does that make sense at all?!) rather than over the babies body. Sometimes it feels a bit like being garrotted but usually it's ok! I really like the sunshine kids changing mats off amazon - they are big and waterproof and have pockets for wipes nappies etc but fold up really small and only cost about £7 and are perfect to make any bag, even a small handbag into a changing bag.

BroomForMyChin · 24/02/2012 20:40

That does make sense Grin thanks I'll give it a go.
