Is anyone out there a Supermum?

Obviously not, but just a couple of questions...

As a new mum did anyone else do any ironing?? Babygros no less a la Corrie? 2 days after giving birth to twins? (I read Heat I don?t watch it?) (FYI, I stayed at my parents? for 7 weeks and they did absolutely everything for the first month other than breastfeed dd! (oh and i changed most nappies) I can?t imagine how women cope without that help? btw I?m a single mum.)

And did anyone manage to get all made up and be all bubbly and energetic looking when baby 6 weeks old? (a la my neighbour). Having said that, I was reading back on my diary entries and discovered that when dd was 7-8 weeks old me and my boyf (not her dad) took dd to a house party, I spent a lot of the time breastfeeding in a bedroom upstairs. My memory had been telling me she was 3 or 4 months old, so I was at myself for actually having managed that!

And nothing to do with new mums, but does everyone else dry the dishes? Mine dry on the rack, I take stuff from there if I need it. There was a thread recently by a mum complaining that her H didn?t pull his weight, and one thing she complained about was not drying the dishes. FWIW, I don?t actually think it?s hygienic myself .

PS I know all this doesn't belong in Parenting but didn't know where else.

i try to be .
took dd3 to see dp mum when she was 3 days old . 150 miles away but she had had a stroke and was getting very uptight about seeing her . ( she was suppose to be my birthing partner)also breastfeeding.
always brush hair(not had it cut for months)
no make-up .
do struggle to keep house clean but thats a diff thread.
def dont dry plates etc ( i agree unhygenic)
dont always feel bubbly and energetic and sometimes come across right misog in school playground
have 3dd's oldest is 8 and i still havent got to grips of wash then iron it always is mounting up.

love to keep a diary but never have the time.
and i agree with cathyspam, wharfrat, charliegreensmum and misdee that these things are so not important . to give your child your time , make sure they have clothes clean /dry unironed if need be , and to spend time with them then that is all that matters.
we all try and i know that if it was a choice between a screaming baby and a pile of ironing i would much rather spend time making the baby happy rather then a pile of clothes iyswim.
dont beat yaself up if the house is a bloody mess . do as i say not as i do and get some help! dp? if so then get him to pull his weight. or friends and family.

to anyone who feels like a failure or is struggling
at the end of the day it gets dark

when we tidy up the kids ask " who's coming?"

ironing? [confused emoticon].

makeup? dd is two and ive worn it about 20 times since her birth.

drying dishes..noooo i dont like that. i rinse with hot water and leave to dry before i put away. a dishwasher would be nice if i had space left though.

Yesterday I ironed a pair of trousers and that made me feel like Supermum. Does that count?

I'd love to keep a diary. I must say its not actually tiredness or anything that stops me, I just don't seem to have the enthusiasm. Every so often I do spurts of record keeping about the kids and I love reading back over it a few months later. Real respect there, bourneville-20 years from now you'll love re-reading the diaries!

"At the end of the day it gets dark" ROFL!

Tortington · 28/01/2006 13:36

ive just has this whilst i was ironing a skirt " are you going out mummy?"

cheeky gits

filyjonk, it's not actually always that pleasant reading back on diaries! more cringeworthy!
but, gives you a lot of insight! helps you move on, makes sure you don't make the same mistakes again, etc.

when ds was born i did over do it, came out of hospital with a 2 day old got changed and went to a 80th birthday party, came home and entertained about 6 friends until 10pm. By the next day i was sobbing uncontrolably with sheer exhaustion as bf ds who ate for 45mins every hour.
however I now have a 2yr old ds and a 6wk old dd and things couldnt be more different. Dh was in complete shock his first day back to work when he returned to a blitzed house, all washing and drying done, clothes away and 2 happy kids which surprisingly I am still managing to stay on top of things apart from my week old basket of ironing in the hall which I currently blame on us having had colds all week..lol
