Cloth nappies at night - power wee-er

I've just started putting DS (16m) back in his cloth nappies during the day (nightmare pregnancy, couldn't deal with them). DH has never been sure about them at night as DS is a serious wee-er, so I agreed that we could keep him in disposables at night.

But the last two mornings he's been soaked through in his "never-leak" Pampers, to the point that they've exploded those hideous crystal things over him, and over the carpet when I change him.

Aside from the fact that the chemical aspect was one of the reasons I bought cloth nappies in the first place, I have SPD and the last thing I need is to have to manhandle tantruming DS into the shower, and then hoover up the crystals that have escaped all over the carpet. So it's the final straw.

Can someone please recommend some super cloth night nappies?

I've got Tots stretchies that I was recommended before. They were ok, but now even boosted with hemp and microfibre he can get through them. I also had some Night Notions in medium which were ok, are they any good in large for power wee-ers?

TIA!

I would say night notions was a good bet for you as you can boost them with additional boosters. I would also suggest you looking at sbish fitteds as well. These are known over the other side of the pond as magic nappies as they work so so well.

Thanks Tribble. The sbish look pretty slim, have you tried them?

Gah, I hate how expensive night nappies are...

Oh, sorry to be cheeky, but can I ask about wraps as well? Do you think normal ME ones are ok, or should I get a fleece wrap?

Thanks :)

It depends on what you want out of them, a motherease wrap should be fine to be honest, but a fleece wrap allows the moisture to evaporate from the nappy a bit. This is good in the case of a heavy wetter. Do you use pajamas? If so you my want to consider some flongies (fleece trousers). I think they go for about £8 ish. I've heard of some Mums using a wrap and flongies as well.

The sbish are lovely nappies, I have tried them and found them to be fab. They do sell boosters as well for them.

I have heard fleece can be tricky when babies sleep in certain positions though. I'll have to look into that one if you want to.

Night nappies are expensive though aren't they. I've seen holdens landing bed bugs (these are also good) go for £20 plus. Madness at times. Smile

DS normally has a sleepsuit and a sleeping bag, so would fleece just wick the moisture onto those?

A rikki wrap might be better in that case.

I'll have a look at the sbish and the night notions then. I might order one of each and see how I get on.

Thanks so much again :)

Wool wraps, not fleece - honestly! The wool absorbs some wee, and the lamolin stops it spreading, you also get evaporation...

I use bambeasies boosted with an extra bamboo large booster AND a large hemp booster - works well and DD was also out-weeing disposables...

ChristinePlushPants · 12/03/2012 23:07

Kissaluvs Organic/Hemp Nappies are a really thirsty nappy good for nights, easy to boost if required too, comes with a booster. Needs a wrap. Suggest a reliable PUL wrap.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 13/03/2012 21:51

We use Tots Bots Bamboozles with a couple of extra bamboo boosters and a PUL MotherEase outer. We used a fleecy liner to shift the wetness away from DD's bottom too. Some nights the whole lot was soaked but DD didn't seem too bothered and the PUL outer stopped her PJs getting wet.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 13/03/2012 21:53

I'd possibly recommend a nappy trial (I just Googled for one but I'm sure other MNers will know of places). We did this for our night nappies and I therefore got to try out lots of combinations from PUL to fleecy outers and various nappies.

Was worth the money as I bought what best suited us and DD and got to be sure it was absorbent enough.

Same problem, we've recently had success with bamboozle stretch under a bum genius v4 stuffed with a little lamb bamboo insert. Lasts 12 hours :) I use the bum genius instead of a PUL wrap. Oh and I use a fleece liner as the bamboozles feel wet next to the skin otherwise.

mummysmellsofsick · 25/03/2012 17:46

Similar to PurpleCrazyHorse really

If you can find some, we love the old Lollipop fleece pocket nappies, stuffed with a cotton prefold, a bamboo and I stick another fleece liner next to his skin in case he feels wet. I use a PUL wrap over that lot, because although the Lollipops have a PUL lining I don't entirely trust it all night long (they are decidedly vintage, these nappies!).

I also have a Kissaluv hemp, as ChristinePlushPants suggests (in fact, I think I bought it from her!) which is fab.

AngelDog · 23/04/2012 22:17

At that age, I used a Motherease one size with one or two hemp boosters, and an Airflow wrap. DS is a super wee-er at night still at 2.3 and we use a cotton Little Lamb (size 3) with one hemp booster and an airflow wrap. In the last year the most absorbant disposable we've found leaked 50% of nights. Hmm

We have used fleece pants (like longies, only shorter) which helped contain leaks, although not at the moment. Boosters are the key IMO - we put them outside the nappy so it stays a good fit.
