Sling / carrier etiquette

hi all! This may be a silly question, but if I am out and about by myself with my baby in a sling, what is the correct procedure for when you need the loo?

Would you bring something soft so you can place your baby on the floor in the cubicle? Or just keep them in..?

I'd keep dd in most of the time, it was um a bit complicated but she'd have screamed herself silly if I disturbed her. Once she was older I used the baby change toilets and laid her on the change unit whilst I used the loo. (The changer was arms distance from loo so I could keep her safe.)

I just kept them in the sling and used the loo.
I'm now v good at wiggling up my pants with a baby strapped to my front!

HappyAsASandboy · 20/02/2012 08:38

Definitely keep them attached. Lots of faff to take them off and on again in order to put them on a dirty floor? No thank you Smile

Keep them in. Try not to whack their head on the toilet paper dispenser when bending over to pull up trousers Blush

CMOTDibbler · 20/02/2012 08:57

Yup, I kept ds attached too

Iggly · 20/02/2012 08:59

Keep them in!

Keep them in... btw I read your post title and was like, "S**t! There's etiquette? Littleboots is nearly 14mo and I have been inadvertently embarrassing us both for over a year!" So relieved it's just a loo thing...

Yep - wee while wearing. If you are using a Bjorn then they should be sitting in it, not dangling from their pelvis, so feet shouldn't get in the way.

Jnice · 23/02/2012 06:50

octavia you can do that? I ditched the bjorn for ergo thinking it was better for the pelvis.

It took me being desperate to do this the first time, but it soon became routine.

Octaviapink · 23/02/2012 07:41

Yes - you get them in it then sort of hitch them up so they're sitting on their bum. The Ergo is supposed to be fantastic though - if we manage DC3 then I'll be getting one (as much as anything else because you can put them on your back - I never got the hang of wrap-slinging on my back!)

InmaculadaConcepcion · 23/02/2012 13:47

Stick with the Ergo, for sure!!

And yep, it's often a lot less hassle going for a pee in a small public loo with a baby strapped to your front than trying to organise a pram when you need to go. Smile
