did you have your babies room ready for there arrival or did you wait untill they were born then get all furniture etc?
we waited till he was born because we were having a suprise so didnt no what colours etc... he slept in our room anyway for the first 8 months ish (Still in sometimes!) we did ds room when he was about 6 months we already had a cotbed second hand so got him his matress and ikea malm furntire and bookcase.

Sometimes i feel like i should of had it all ready, he had a car seat a pram a moses basket and stand a swinging crib, blankets, bedding, nappies, wipes, baby clothes, all of it reallly but carnt help but think i didnt have it all sorted for him

I think if your baby is cared for then it really doesn't matter. What about it is bothering you?

I was a lone parent from birth so some things were done relatively early just in case I got incapacitated later in the pregnancy. I smartened up my spare room for him, installed the cot and wombled a few essentials from a friend who had had a baby 18 months earlier. For the rest I decided to wait until the baby was here and then see what I needed. It was clear that a lot of the kit they push at new parents is useless!

I don't think you should feel strange for not cutting the ribbon on a fully stocked purpose-built nursery Day 1. New babies are an addition to the family... not visitors moving into the guest lodge..

No she was in our room at first. Then we bought a cot and put it in the spare room and she slept in there (there was already had an old chest of drawers, bookcase and wardrobe in there).

Eventually when she was 2 we decorated it and made it a bit more kid friendly.

we had it all ready, newly-painted room, neutral colors, sheets, decorations etc and when I was literally giving birth in hospital there was a rain storm and the roof had a bad leak right on top of the cot...!!! so we had to do it all again anyway, he was weeks in our bedroom before we got round to having the roof repaired!

I am on DC4 and this is the only child who will have a 'ready' room, and thats only because he/she will be sharing with DC3 who is just having his room decorated.

ThreeNine · 16/02/2012 18:12

She still doesn't have a room at 4 months and isnt likely to get one any time soon.

DS1 had a beautiful nursery all ready. He used/ slept in it from 6months to 3 years. We then moved house and DS1 had new bedroom, we reused all beautiful nursery equipment for DS2 in the box room. Since then we have put both boys in bunks in the box room and made DS1 larger room into a playroom. On questioning neither child even remembers the theme or colour of the nursery at all!

We are considering DC3. It will not have a nursery. It will be with us for at least 6 months then get popped in a cot sharing with the boys so we don't loose the play room. IMO nursery decor is another of the things we are expected to buy for our babies that is generally useless.

tiredteddy · 16/02/2012 18:16

I meant to say, so don't feel bad the nursery wasnt perfect as your little one won't even remember it when they grow up OP. Smile

Why on earth does it matter what colour the room is where the baby sleeps? Confused

CharliesMummyMeg · 17/02/2012 11:30

thank you to you all..... feeling much better now. I think its because my partner walked out twice when ds was 4 weeks then 8 weeks but is back now and i feel wobbly..... stupid me

The baby's in your room for the first six months anyway, so I always felt that getting a room ready for it was pointless!
