Can anyone recommend any good bedtime stories for my dd who has just turned 4. I have another dd who is 2.6 . Would it be ok to read them the same book before bed.? In terms of it being age appropriate ?

Hello. My DC are nearly 4(DD) and nearly 2(DS).
They both get into DS's bed for a story so I read to them together.
At the moment books of choice include Goldilocks and the 3 bears,The Gruffalo and Nibbler (same authors as The Gruffalo).
And reading together makes bedtime a bit shorter Wink

My DD1 loves Shirley Hughes' stories. Particularly the Alfie ones and the Ollie & Me ones. They are beautifully illustrated. Quite old fashioned (I remember them!) but timeless. What I like is that they deal with family and siblings in such a natural way.

The Elmer books - the younger will like the colours and the talking elephant, the elder will get the moral/message.

Why don't you take them to the library and see what they pick out?

Also, you could always have 1 book each before bed. We do that now & DD2 is only 6m! The 3yo gets a dose of "That's not my..." etc!

We have a new favourite book called You Choose - it is fantastic and both (just) 5 year old and (about to be) 3 year old adore it. Not a story book, but really gets them chatting and excited about it at bedtime.
For stories they both enjoy, they love the Brambly Hedge, the Julia Donaldson books etc, but the just 5 year old has suddenly really got into books without pictures, eg The Faraway Tree etc, which surprised me.

4yo dd1 is currently 'reading' Ny Naughty Little Sister. We also thought she was ready for books without pictures although the Faraway Tree is a bit faraway for us yet. Can't wait till she's old enough for that :)

we read My Naughty Little Sister too -- I didn't expect Faraway Tree etc to work, but she really surprised us by loving it, and we have now read the Enchanted Wood too!

I will look into those suggestions. Thanks for your help .
