hello, just started using Colief for 8 wk old ds3, amaaaaaazing, he had been keeping us up between 11pm and 4am every blimming niguy since he was 2 wks and then last night he had a feed at 11 with Colief and slept till 5.30...
He is BF and this is how I am giving him Colief at home: I am expressing into a bottle which I keep in the fridge and then, just before every feed I tip a small amount into a sterilized egg cup, warm it slightly, add the Colief then use a syringe to give it to him before feeding as normal. Bit of a faff, but ok. First question: Does anyone have a better way??
Second question: he is normally fine during the day, it is only at night that he kicks off. Do I need to give him Colief during the day too?
Third question, how do you give Colief when you are out and about?? Do I carry the bottle of expressed milk with me and carry a sterilized egg cup, syringe etc?! Again, is there a better way, how do you do it?
All of this is a faff, but well worth it if he carries on sleeping at night.

I used infacol which has a pipette and you put a couple of drops on their Tongue before you feed. I found this much easier than colief

Hi Nevercan, infacol didn't work for us, apparently infacol and colief are for different things. Infacol and gripe water are for wind problems, while Colief is for breaking down lactose in milk, which can cause pain for babies.
I wish infacol had worked, it was much easier!
thanks

well it is sort of working -- not the miracle I hoped for, but definitely doing something I think. Would still love anyone elses experiences of using the stuff, cos it is a PAIN if you are BF.
Last night my PIL were here for tea and I had to go into the kitchen to express into an eggcup for colief before feeding. MIL came in without me noticing and for some reason got it into her head that I was leaning over the counter because I was trying to get the lid off a jar... so she called FIL to come and help me! Much embarrassment all round... Blush

It is such a faff. But worked for us too!

Not sure if it's any better but I gave it to DD in a bottle of EBM. I would take bottle up at bathtime along with a thermos of hot water. As she came out of the bath, I put bottle into thermos' cup, and by the time her nappy was on it would be the right temperature so put drops in and give to her straight away. Then rest of the feed as usual breastfeed.

Still a fiddle but like most things it is easier once you've got a system. We've just stopped giving it to her. JUST as the system got properly slick! Smile

Sorry meant to say bottle only had about 10-15ml in it, enough to cost the bottom of the bottle.

Did you only give it at that time then, not at other feeds during the day? The instructions are a bit vague on whether you have to give it at every feed. Thanks for the bottle tip, that sounds a lot easier!

we gave dd a dose with every feed but she was ff then - sorry i don't know how it works with bf

UntamedShrew · 21/02/2012 19:35

We just gave it with her evening feeds as this was the only time of day she struggled & got pains. Good luck, it's horrible seeing them so upset so I really hope it works for you.
