2 year old waking up with wet PJs/wet bag/wet bedding every day

My 23 month old son has been waking up with wet PJs, wet gro-bag and wet bedding every day for months. We have the (very) odd day when he's dry. I think the problem is that his wee is coming out of the sides (where there's no padding), because the nappy is never full-to-bursting in the morning. He sleeps 7 till 7pm. He has a milk before bed which I'm loathe to stop. Things I've tried:

Swapping brands. Though I haven't as yet tried Tesco's. I have tried Lidl. I've heard good things about both of those brands.

Pointing penis down. Putting cottonwool either side of penis.

I've tried every half size from 4.5 to 6.

I have to do the washing most mornings, and it's doing my head in. Any advice?

I think you have to bring the bedtime milk forward an hour or make it a really small drink, make sure he has a dry nappy before he goes to sleep and check/change his nappy a few hours later as you're going to bed. It'll be similar when he's potty-trained and you're trying to get him dry at night.

My DS used to be like this - we reduced bedtime milk (but still has 210ml!) and he had it straight after tea at about 5.15, then a bit of a play and then bath time. We also checked his nappy before bed as well.

Also changed nappies to size 5 Nature Baby (he is 13kg) and these stopped leakage

He also cut down the amount of water he was drinking in the afternoon so that he only had it when he woke up from lunchtime nap and with tea/

Maybe get a waterproof wrap fpr a reusuable nappy to go over the disposable.

Second using a washable nappy wrap over the disposable as a second barrier to the wetness.

waterproof wraps worked for us in this situation.

we have this problem too but its because my child is on a special diet which is very liquidy.

We have resorted to using the drynights sheets, saves on the washing a lot!

I had this problem with my son, I ended up buying some cotton wool gauze to put in his nappy. It soaked into that first before it soaked into the nappy... worked for us... think I got it from boots,

We have also had this problem for a long time with ds, now 2.7. We went down the reusable route as we could stuff them as much as needed. Yes he can hardly walk in it but it's only a night nappy. We recently tried to go back to A disposable as he's now potty trained during the day but we were having leaks approx 2 nights out of 3. Sounds like a common problem!

Reusable bamboo nighttime nappies and the aforementioned waterproof wraps.

My sympathies, we've also tried a lot if the suggestions here but have had months of this too. It has got much better recently but I have no idea if this is because I give his milk with tea at 5pm now or just that he's got better bladder control (I started sitting him on the loo for a pee in the morning first thing and he usually does a massive wee tho he's not potty trained yet).

We solved this in the long term by cutting out bedtime milk.

In the short term we used to put another nappy (bigger) over the top. Just a disposable. It seemed to catch the excess.

Great ideas - thank you. We brought the last milk forward to before 6pm, and I attached two pantyliners two his nappy around the hip area. When he woke this morning he PJs and bag were damp, but not sodden enough to make it through to the blanket - so a small improvement. I'm going online now to buy a waterproof wrap.

Just to report. A combination of the following has led to 2 out of 3 dry nights:

No bedtime milk - has his last drink with tea at 5.30pm.

Nappy if being put on tighter (he has a podgy tummy at night, but flat in the morning, I didn't like making it too tight, but he doesn't seem to find it uncomfortable).

Bought the waterproof wrap from Motherease on Amazon.

I am so chuffed at the reduction in washing. I hope that this little discussion helps someone else!
