Anyone doing U212 with the OU?

Just wondered really.

Am panicking about the fact that we are obviously expected to work on new stuff AT THE SAME TIME AS working on assignments! This may sound old hat to some of you seasoned students.. .. but I have only done a Level one course previously (finished in Sept) where they spoon fed you everyhting you needed to know.. provided idiot-proof student notes in the assignment booklet... gave you a blow-by-blow essay plan at each handily timed tutorial....

I am panicking a bit.. Have done a couple of week's worth already but only dawned on me today how much I need to be completing each week! (Was feeling all smug because start date is not until 28th Jan. Serves me right!)

have you got the Firstclass software? Much easier than using the website. You can download it from here if you don't have the CD

MarsOnLife · 29/01/2006 14:11

ist that the cd that came with my stuff?

MarsOnLife · 29/01/2006 14:13

just looked at it. Such a lazy moo! Unpacked my stuff and saw that the cd said online applications and instantly thought... oh I don't need to apply for my next course yet. DOH!!!!!!!!!! It's not that kind of application.

yep you should've got a software CD along with the rest of your course materials

MarsOnLife · 29/01/2006 14:15

will load it now

It's great having another MNer doing an OU course. Almost stops me looking stupid (as proved by my posts below lol)

No - but I am doing DD303.

SleepyJess · 31/01/2006 23:43

I wondered what that 'online applications' disc was for too...

I am on a level 2 and there are 7 TMAs and a three hour exam! So level 3 can't be all that much worse then...

have you loaded it sj? It opens up a whole new world lol

SleepyJess · 01/02/2006 10:27

How DID you know I hadn't personally 'bought and paid for' my course materials, Mars?! (re earlier in thread)

SJ-inclined-to-mild-paranoia-about-inescapable-benefits-claimant-status

PS Can you just tell me what that disc does.. do I actually need it?

OP posts:
MarsOnLife · 01/02/2006 12:31

Ok... I didn't know. When I said bought and paid for indeed! I meant the amount that I had to fork out. It wasn't directed at you at all. lol.... and hey! So what if they were state bought.... they're yours aren't they?

The disc, which I didn't think I needed, allows you to access online conferences with other students doing your course. Open it up and load it. Don't bother with the screen saver though. Full of adverts.

SleepyJess · 01/02/2006 12:46

Ah thanks Mars.. I had wondered how and where to find those conference jobbies!

LOL re me and my paranoia.. that hadn't occured to me, sorry! It's just that at tutorials they all moan away about the costs of their courses.. and I bury my face in a book and try to be invisible! I seem to be the only university student EVER (well it feels that way) not to be paying for their education. Didn't realise it would be 'free to me' when I went into it.. am still shocked! Good old Mr. Blair, bless his cottons..

Just cos it's free... you've still got to work your socks off babe.

I'm glad that I'll have someone to chat to about the impossibility of getting my TMAs in lol

spacedonkey · 01/02/2006 14:47

SJ, don't worry about it, I got financial assistance for mine too!

MadameDeMars · 26/03/2006 19:44

How are you all doing????????????

I'm just waiting for my first TMA to be returned (tutor's wife had a baby so they are late back).

Of course I had an extension cos the DTs got chickenpox and then DT2 had a viral infection.

I'm loving it! Finally gotten into the swing of things and I'm loving it. I felt overwhelmed until the first TMA was done. Have seen lots of plays with more the see.

Thinking of you all. Grin

spacedonkey · 29/03/2006 01:15

Hello Mars, glad to hear you're loving the course Smile

I'm loving mine too! Just doing my 5th TMA now - only two more to go and I'll be done. Then off to summer school (DXR220) in July, then starting DD201 in October.

Can't tell you how much I'm enjoying it, and I've made lots of new through FirstClass

Hi everyone,
I found this site that may be useful for those doing U212. It has info about the dreaded exam... and handouts to download!!

Best wishes,
