At what age do children actually 'get' hide and seek?

We've graduated from the 'close your eyes and think that's hiding' stage

We've gone past the 'hiding in a really obvious place' stage

We no longer have the 'where's Ds?! where's DS?! hehehehehe I'M IN THE CUPBOARD!!!!' stage

We're now in the 'mummy help me into this hiding place. good. now go away and count' stage.

Although sometimes we are also in the 'hide in a good place but then giggle really loudly' stage

My DD is 20 months and she 'gets' hide and seek. Although if you leave her hiding too long she comes to find you!!

I mean to the point where I actually have to search for him and I don't already know where he is.

Ie I want a sit down for five mins

Well, our house is fairly limited for hiding places so I usually find her within a couple of minutes, but I never know what place she is going to opt for.

I hope this is your older DS. Otherwise my DS is really behind...

Ds was about 3.5 before he became really skilled at hide and seek and about 5 before he came up with the idea that someone else should hide too. DD is 2.5 and totally got it down pat but has had ds as a model shushing her with dire threats until she got with the programme

Haha yes DS1. He gets the idea but I mean whn does he get good at it? Without giving me any clues?! He's so loud!
