Hello. I just wondered if anyone can remember their own mum playing with them when they were young? I can't really recall my mum spending time with me and my husband can't either. We don't want to ask them because it might upset them that we can't remember!

I remember some playing but LOTS of creative play, potato printing, egg cress heads, miniature gardens that kind of thing. We used to read together loads too.

DH cannot ever remember his Mum hugging him let alone reading to him Sad

I had a very happy childhood but i dont really recall my mum (or dad) playing with me as such. My dad used to take me and my sister to the allottment to help out, and we used to bake with mum but as for entertaining us and keeping us occupied in the house with games etc then no.
I do, however, think times have changed. by this i mean, when i grew up in the 70s most mums did not work, or only part time at least, everyone lived close to each other (on the same estate) and in those days, from a very early age we used to just knock on the doors of our friends to go and play. I can remember being young, 5 or 6 ish and being out all day with my (same age) friends. We used to play in the rivers, in the woods, orchards, farmers fields etc and walk quite some distance away. Mum would say 'lunch is at 12' and as long as we were home by then it was fine!
You just wouldn't do that these days, but then it was normal
I think being a mum now is in many ways much harder as our children are with us constantly and there is so much pressure to be a 'perfect'mum

My mum was brilliant at pulling apart the lego bricks that wouldn't seperate. I don't remember her playing but I do remember her sitting in the chair breaking up the lego to get at the bricks I wanted, or delicately placing the lego roof on the house as I kept pushing too hard and breaking the roof. It'll be interesting to see what DS remember of me, probably just baking with him as I have to work FT in the week whereas my mum either didn't work or only part time Sad

I had a wonderful childhood in the late 60's/early 70's. I can't really remember much actual playing apart from board games (we didn't have a TV) but we did lots of baking and helping Mum with housework which we loved. Both of my parents read to us and we helped with gardening and decorating.

Not really playing but I remember revision for O Levels at the same time as my sister revised for A levels and my parents insisted we stopped at 9.00pm and we'd have tea and cake and do the Telegraph quick crossword all together. Really happy memories. They were such a kind and gentle pair and I still miss them.

I definitely remember playing with my mum.
We played sometimes during the day but not that much as she was really busy ( 5kids, a big house with no cleaner, a huge veg and fruit garden and lots of farm animals). But every night, we played a boardgame as a family (tv on saturdays only) or my dad played with the two younger ones (me and my bro) and then either my mum or my dad read us a story in bed. It was lovely.
